I went by Lowes to see what they could do. First, they had a heck of a time locating the vender info. Actually called the company direct. The price was the same as online so no benefit there.

cold air, hot air

I have a 30' x 50' with insulation in the walls, 5/8" plywood on the inside wall, 1/2" plywood on the outside with sheet metal on it. From the road it looks like a metal building. 7/16" plywood on ceiling with six inches of fiberglass insulation. I bought a used 3 and half ton AC unit, duct work and all installed for $1500. When it's 85 in the shop, like it was today (99-101 outside) I can run the unit for 20 to 30 minutes and cool down the shop. It does not drop the temperature much but it dry's out the air and it feels cooler. If it cools it down to 78 to 80 it feels good while we work in the shop.
Last summer I added on a 20' x 50' to the back of the shop. Now the shop is 50' x 50' but I have not put insulation into the new part, nor did I add AC. It's about 18 degrees hotter in the new part during the day.
I think the screen door would be great in the fall and spring.

I did build a bathroom in the new addition.

Ok,
I found a crap lot of them It seems everyone and their mother makes them. This one guy outside of Niagara Falls area seems to be the best and cheapest too. I called him today and it's a small operation (he actually sews himself when work load gets heavy)

His product is better then the Kitty Mac. It comes with the pull down draw strings free and tidier set up at that. His screen is the only one that is fire safety approved (?) (important for you garage welders out there) Also good advice he told me is that all the others tell their clients to use a plastic PVC pipe in the bottom roll up chute. He said that is terrible. He said after the sun beats down on that for a few months it gets warped, bent and the screen looks like heck. Try pulling it out then..not easy. He said use a metal aluminum electrical conduit pipe.

Anyway if you want have a look at his temporary web page as the new one with video is being completed by next week.

The whole point is, on the OPUTSIDE of the track or outer door jamps it is "Completely out of the way. You gotta see how one works.

This one does adhere to the inside. But it does not have a roll up version. http://www.ezscreenkit.com/index.html

The only thing that poses a problem with the others is the weatherstripping not being consistent so manufactures don't bother with the gamble. also the space up top between the door and the roll up would work. I would rather not chance it and go through all of that. Therefore I will go with the standard outside version.

Venamm, by all means use the one you like. The concept is what I am talking about, you certainly don't need to use the one I did. HOWEVER, the PVC pipe is an option, they also call for a 3/4 black pipe to use at the bottom. The choice is yours. I have used the black pipe and am quite happy with it. Here's a shot from the inside with the screen rolled partially up while I have the transom of a boat pulled in for work.

Dwight, that is one solid looking building! I'm impressed.

What are the biggest pests in your area? I mean steel over 1/2 sheathing is a bit more than the usual, where you going for no maintenance or making sure something doesn't get in?

That is a nice barn!

I'm with Ed,

Build to last

I have the walls anchored to the slab and the rafters tied down with hurricane clips to the walls. When a tornado (the largest pest) passes by maybe all I will lose is the sheet metal roof. If it gets to close all I will have is a clean 8 acre lot. Plus with plywood inside and outside it is a lot cooler inside. I can hang anything anywhere inside the shop on the plywood walls. Low maintenance gives me more time to drive the Cobra.
I'm going to retire in 1 1/2 to 2 years. I build a place to play. I also have a shooting pit behind the shop.

Dwight

I have cleaned up the front and side of the shop since I took the pictures but the grass still needs cutting.
