What do I do now?

I purchased a Classic Roadster from Fargo back in 1995.

I got Phase 1, and have been acquiring a ridiculous amount of parts for the last 14 years. I pretty much have everything I need except the body, lights...

Now I see the CRII is in chapter 13. What can I do? I am actually looking at selling the kit, but I cannot do so in good conscious if the kit is un-completable. Do any other body's fit this frame? I know it was stretched and widened, so it limits me.

Troy.

I would think with some modification an Emerson body might fit.

A Chapter 13 filing does not mean they have "gone belly up and chained their doors" but rather they are trying to repay their debts on better terms (meaning pay less, lower interest rates, better terms, etc.) If you can, I would buy the body and lights, and whatever else you need, from them so that you knew it fit right. BUT, it would be a "Cash on Delivery" deal -- no money up front (for obvious reasons).:3DSMILE:

Some miss information starting to pop up. Classic Roadsters II is out of business.

There is no option for getting anything from them in their current state. Cash or otherwise.

I don't know about those guys, but from my experience over the last 2 years building my CRII with the indispensable help of Ed "DV" Combs (probably the the most knowledgeable person with regards to the inner workings of CRIIs). There is currently no one selling or even able to get anything Classic Roadsters with regards to the frame and body, unless its an individual who has been sitting on a kit for a few years and wants to get rid of it.

I'm sure he'll add his perspective to this conversation in the near future.

thohawk 07-29-2009 12:05 PM

Good point. I just sent them an E-mail. I may even try contacting the bank, or whoever owns the classic Molds and see about purchasing a body.

Or purchase a body off someone that didn't finish their kit as well.

Jcmrant 07-29-2009 01:02 PM

I just bought rjreplicas last kit. He won't have anything left. CRII is now owned by the bank. Donald Scott is in Chapter 13 not the business.

A lone star body may fit.
I heard it was slpashed of of a Classic roadster

thohawk 07-29-2009 03:59 PM

Thanks for the advice on other possible fits. I am going to check around. Otherwise I may sell it off piece by piece on ebay. Holy crap it will take a long time though.

Curt C. 07-29-2009 06:02 PM

What about CR of Canada. He was the one had the molds and was making bodies. Try this number 306 651 7113

vettestr 07-29-2009 09:24 PM

What is the width and length needed?

Excaliber 07-29-2009 10:55 PM

Seems to me the CR is about 4 inches longer and 4 inches wider than "normal". Maybe someone will have the exact measurments.

Double Venom 07-30-2009 02:00 AM

Gentlemen,
As Cpt Eddie states, there are NO bodies to be had. Yes, some of the bodies were made in Canada BUT what I understand (?) they were using the CR's Molds, Not their own. Another point and I have yet to investigate it, is that the original "Classic Roadsters, INC, who sold out to "Leisure Industries" NEVER released the molds to CR II!! Leisure industries was making the bodies for Don S under contract and as far as I know, they STILL have/own the moulds. (Leisure Ind's has also filed Bankruptcy.)

Emerson WILL NOT FIT, LoneStar with minor mods did splash the CR original bodies but they too have now filed bankruptcy. What is available is up to investigation?

As far as I know, the only place to get a body at this point is find one left over from someones stock- unlikely to say the least, or to find one that hasn't been built and just sitting in someones garage.

I'm to old to start making bodies, but darn..............

trularin 07-30-2009 05:02 AM

I talked to Brian just the other day and he didn't mention anything about bankruptcy.

Give LoneStar a call and see if theirs will fit.

Just a suggestion.

:D

I have heard the same thing!

Double Venom 07-30-2009 06:18 AM

trularin,
Steve Newmark (?) the original (and maybe the only) owner of LoneStar had filed bankruptcy. I have no particular facts about Lonestar, but if there body is available it certainly should fit!

Steve worked for Classic Roadsters under Gary Ruhteford, original owner and designer of CR's, when he quit and took a CR kit with him, copied it and opened up Lonestar.

For what it's worth - At least a phone call.........

thohawk 07-30-2009 08:15 AM

Heck yes, I will call him. Thanks for the input. I also sent an email to the gentleman trying to purchase CRII. Hopefully somewhere I will be able to find something.

Ok.... Inquiring minds want to know %/ Who's the "gentleman" trying to purchase CRII?

Double Venom 07-30-2009 08:41 AM

Good Heavons!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the name 'TERRY GATTRILL' (sp) comes up may I suggest you RUN AWAY do not walk away!

I now think Terry has been telling people that story for at least three years! He had Don on a string forever. IF he can pull it off, well then I wish him well, but I wouldn't get too excited about it until the paperwork is done. (Just so you know- Terry was telling people he had the entire buy-out with the Bank in hand- that is until I talked to the Banker handeling Don's Bankruptcy- "They NEVER heard of Terry Gattrill!

He also tried to sell me a couple of kits, "send money now!" only to find out he didn't have any kits what so ever! He didn't have the jigs and he certainly didn't have the molds!

Two years, I simply got tired of hearing it!
