Do I belong here?
Joined several weeks back. I own a cobra much different from everyone else here. Mine started life as a stereo display at a tv/ stereo store in Tucson. It is now the only Cobra sand drag car known to exist. It has a 357 cu.in. windsor/c4 & 9" rear. I've been racing it since I built it in 2004. Should have won a few points championships but didn't attend enough points races.( 3 second places) Did win the Spring nationals open class in 2005- Primm,NV. We race 300 feet of heavy sand/loam mix. car runs it in 4.25-4.50 sec's depending on altitude, air, track, etc. avg 60' @1.75 & mph @ 78, best ever et-4.13 @ 89 mph. best ever 60' was a 1.51 on a 4.28 pass. traction is always a problem. Car is called "SNAKEBITE"- we live near Tucson.

Of course you belong here!
I have to admit there probaly isn't many sand drag Cobra's here but we are all enthusiasts, so you belong. Have you been to any of our local get-togethers? Larry |
Cool. How about some pics?

Video... We need video...
Preferably, in-car driver's perspective. Sand-drag Cobra: How cool is that? DD |

Put some headlamp covers on that car!!!:3DSMILE: Looks like a lot of fun! How does the car track on the course?
I remember one year the fastest car was a VW powered drag rail. That thing could really get & go!!! Sand drags are my first memory of Webers on a V8. A friend of my dads has a Drag Jeep with a BB Chebby fed by Webers. It was a beast! |
AZmpiercer, give me a call at 825-9197. I live in Catalina. We have a dozen or so Cobras that do a drive every few weeks.

well the race didn't go as well as hoped. show was running behind so i only got 1 t.t.- dialed a tenth quicker, won 1st round & staging fouled on 2nd by my staging device moving in the heavy winds. device is soft & movable due to flip up nose on car hits any stationary non flexible device. car ran ok-jumped a little sideways about 30 feet out but didn't have to lift. brought video cam but wife didn't bring good battery. my kids raced also(1st time in 2 years) my 9 y.o. broke the engine plate on his dragster 1st pass. my 11 y.o. took 2nd - beat himself in a break out. had the other car covered by 3 lengths & didn't lift. will try to get some video soon even if not at a race.
