I was looking for help on the internet and here I am
I have owned my Cobra for more than 20 years and I have had wiper problems since day one. I even built the car myself and didn't get it right back then. So, this is were my search has brought me after scouring the internet. I had no idea there was a site like this. I've been reading the information here and it is sure is handy to have it available, although I'm still looking to find the answer. I have tried a few of the sugestions and applied them unsucessfully. I'll get into that later but hey.....here I am....I'm A Noob!

Yes it is a great resource. I have been trawling around here for a number of years - ignore my Post count as many are added by my looking at and rating gallery photos. However, I have built Cobras, a GT40 and a few classic cars. This site has been a great help. Not to mention the many people that I have met and been able to catch up with over the years. |

Regarding the wipers,,, I have tried every conceivable combination of ways to wire the goofy thing and I'm back to the original setup. I have one speed and no park, I have to fiddle the switch to stop them at the bottom. This something I will just have to deal with until I buy a new motor with the proper set up I'm guessing.. |

The problem is electrical I'm sure. I'm at my wits end with them, Iv'e tried every conceivable combination of wiring at the switch and not been able to solve it. The wiper motor is Lucas and steering column is Chevette, who know what the wiring harness is. It is a Classic Roadsters from the old days kit. Circa 1989 - 90.

my guess would be the incorrect switch is being used. wiper motors come in two basic flavors. with dynamic parking and without dynamic parking.
does the motor have a more than two wires, if so you will need a switch that has a hot on the off position. this hot wire will feed the parking mechanism inside the motor. this hot feeds a clock switch inside that will interrupt the circuit at a certain position. without it they just turn off wherever they are. you cannot expect a toggle switch to work in the system, it must be a wiper switch. |
I'll get a picture of it in the morning. As far as I know the motor is MG, not sure if it is British or German. It is apparently the proper motor for the car. The Cobra is a Classic Roadsters Ltd model from the late 80's.

MG? does the connector look like this on the motor?
http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...tImage_asp.jpg the connect to switch at "2" i believe is the park connection, feed from ignition would be keyed hot, the MG motor would have a rack sticking out of it on one end. i think all MG's were lucas the switch is a specific toggle for wipers, or you can buy a switch(rotary) from cole-hersee, but it will have the international pic of wipers on the knob, of course you can switch the knob to a more vintage one.. whether the chevette switch is correct for parking that motor ? who knows? i would bet no... |
The Chevette switch is on the column and according to Classic Roadsters the wiring loom is the appropriate one for the motor.

LUCAS WIPER MOTOR
have you done a continuity on the wires going to the switch. can you verify low , high and hot? on the motor the yellow seems to be high speed the blue low and the red hot. do you have a wire hiding up above the motor? |
now here is a conflicting post on another forum. showing your wiper motor.
with different wiring legend than FFR and kirkham and MG for that matter. Which wire does what on Lucas wiper motor the one wire (black from switch) should not bypass the plastic connector. that connector feeds the park mechanism. the hot wire is hot at three different events, when on low, when on high and parking. |

the best way to do lucas accessory wiring is to drink about 2 gallons of tea so you get so damn constipated it all begins to make sense

With the blue wire installed at that location and grounded on the top keeps blowing fuses. The only way I can get the motor to work is to ground that blue wire as I have done. You can see the blue wire connected to the black and then grounded. This is the only way the motor will work...one speed (high) and No park. |
you must have an issue at the switch. like i said that plastic connector is the park switch all the leads will have to run thru there to park. if the leads from the motor are plugged into the connector like the pic i posted, and you determine what wire from the switch, control what event, then connect as per the pin-out i posted of the other side of the connector and it would work.....if it doesn't you might have a bad motor or switch. i read where the park mechanism can be shorted by wiring up incorrectly..

so based on that, keyed hot does not go anywhere near the switch. is that your black wire? test it for juice.
there should be only 3 wires coming out of the switch, 4 if you count the washer feed ,low speed high speed, wash and ground. the connector on the motor should be grounded(the odd blade in the plastic) see pic of connector(earth) |
