Barry, No mine does not have a stamped number, but I do have the Mfg's Statement of Origin. I looked again tonight and mine was built in July 1985 so it is a 1985. I am sure they changed company procedures around then as the company was owned by Steve Svaboda. Anyway, would you like a copy of the the build manual? It will not cost you anything. I will copy it and mail it to you if do. Also, I can tell you a lot about the car. On mine, I have had to make almost everything which is fine as it will be a better car that way, hopefully -LOL-)
Anyway, let me know. Byron |
Byron,
Thanks for the help. I would greatly appreciate the manual. After I get the title issue cleared up, I know I will accept your offer to help me with the rest of the build. I have your phone number, so I will be calling. Here is my home address: Barry Sykes 2008 Peninsula Drive Flower Mound, TX 75022 I will be glad to reimburse you for the postage or copy cost of the manual. Barry |
Barry,
You are very welcome. I will get it copied tomorrow at the office and get it mailed to you. Not sure about Texas but I would think if you have a good bill of sale for the car and here, we have to have a copy proving ownership of all drivetrain pieces, engine, transmission etc. that would be enough for your state DMV to issue a title and a new Vin number. Not sure if Shell Valley would still have the original purchaser information but if they did, you might be able to get the Mfg's Statement of origin. That would make things a lot easier for you. Anyway, I will be glad to help all I can. If I can figure out our new computer, I can send you a lot of pictures. They are on the old floppy discs. LOL-) Looking forward to visiting soon, Byron |
Byron,
One more question about the car. Since yours was built around the same time...does it have a model name or number? Barry |
Barry,
Mine was just called the "Shell Valley Motors 427 Cobra". Not really special, just what it is. The manuals will go out today. Talk to you soon, Byron |
Shell Valley can only "legaly" issue one MSO per car and it goes to the original purchaser, if you got the car from the original purchaser then they can send him a copy and he can foward it to you with the bill of sale.
|
Yes, that would be the best answer, but the original owner died several years ago and his family does not have the MSO. Shell Valley does not have records back to 1985, so they don't have anything to help me.
An update on the process... I am going through the Texas DMV as a built from scratch car. Which means filling out several forms, bill of sales, receipts, anti-theft unit review, etc. I gave the DMV everything I had today and I think am 90% there. I have one more step to handle next week and I think I might get the ok to apply for a title. Thanks Barry |
Definitly not LA exotics. No dropped floors or frame xmember. Rear frame configuration not LA.
|
You don't have to have a MSO on a second hand unregistered kit in Texas as long as you have a bill of sale for the kit. Include all components that were included in the purchase(body/chassis, engine, rearend). If any major parts were purchased separately have the receipts for those too. They will run numbers to see if they come back stolen and probably assign a new vin. I went through the same thing a few years ago. Good luck with your build and welcome to the Cobra community.
