Default Hi All!

My name is Michael. I'm hoping to build a Cobra after I retire in 3 1/2 years. I started reading through the forum to help get an understanding of what all will be involved. And hopefully come up with a solid plan before I start my build. Wow......I can see I've got a lot to think about. It's not just as simple as picking out a motor and trans. All ready started taking notes as there is no way I could remember all of the little things that I see come up in build threads.

I probably won't be posting much for a while as I have a lot of reading to do!

ERA and FFR are the two I seem to be drawn to. Both for different reasons. I'm lucky enough to have two good engine builders within a couple hours drive from me...Gessford Machine and BluePrint Engines.

wow, ERA and FFR are 180 degrees apart.. Please explain. PM me.. I can tell you a lot about the builders you are referring to. I have extensive experiance with them. I own an ERA and have been happy for 16 years. I can tell you 100% if you can afford the ERA dont think twice. ERA

I would definitely recommend ERA, I currently own 649 which is extremely well engineered and well made. It is now for sale as I currently have a FIA on order with them. If you are seriously considering ERA I would put your deposit in now, I sent my deposit 25 months ago and they heave just recently started the body and chassis. A long wait, but well worth it.

OK....I've been reading and reading. I think you guys are right about going with ERA. Haven't found anything negative....other than the wait. When I first started thinking about doing this I was looking at the ERA's and think I'll stick with that.

I forgot to mention that I want to do a 289 FIA car.

I went to the FFR build school in 2017 and can say that you are going to build that car from the ground up.

If you go ERA and have them powdercoat the chassis and bond the body to the frame you are miles ahead of the FFR build at that point.

Karl Bebout in Phoenix has an ERA FIA car. I've seen it up close quite a few times and can tell you they are fantastic! Tried to find a photo of his car but didn't find one. Maybe I need to dig deeper in my old photos.

Karl sent me a couple pics of his ERA FIA to post. I'll tell you in real life, it's awesome!

Hi Michael,

Yes I agree with Larry....and dacobb....and ERA626. ERA is the way to go.
My 289FIA is an Australian build (AP), however the body is a Bruce Chervenak (aka "Mr. Bruce") body from PA. I had originally put down a deposit with Peter at ERA, but had to change to local for many 'local' reasons.
I am quite sure you would not be disappointed if your choice is ERA.

Best of luck with your build,
Glen

edit:

Several great ERA FIA build threads that are well worth reading are:

Tim’s ERA 2136 Build Log

Jeff’s "Inspirations" for my ERA 289

Allen’s Ownership Log – ERA#2124
(Allen’s thread covers mods made to his 289FIA, and is also great reading)
