Greetings to all.. New Owner.. Will be asking lots of Q's.
Greetings to everyone.. I'm a new Cobra replica owner.. Mine is sitting down at Unique Motor Cars waiting for transport to me. I ordered the "standard" pallet kit since most of the fun for me is in the building.. I'm sure driving one will be it's own reward.. While this is not my first build, it's my first outside of the Pontiac world and I'll be having a ton of Q's..First 2 right off the bat:
What are the good reputable shops to buy Cobra parts from?

If you had your choice of companies to build your engine, who would it be?
I've been looking at some different engine builders but have no experience with any of them.. All input is welcome..
Looking forward to interacting and learning..

 Jim

Please remember that this forum has been around a long time and many members are old timers too. With that this forum is a sort of "knowledge base". Most questions that can be asked have been asked and many several times because they don't heed the advice:
 Search Can Be Your Friend.

Before starting a new topic, please be sure to see if there is one around.

If there is also weigh that sometimes the info is old. Individuals are unlikely to respond to old topics. Consider that when deciding whether to kick an old topic or starting a fresh one.

 Good luck with the car

As far as engines go, search is the place to start that. Read all the topics you can find. Remember that some of them are no longer in business. There are fresh topics on this subject...

 Good luck!

P.S. You say your experience is with Pontiacs. That means this is likely to be your first 90" wheelbase more-horsepower-and-torque-that-can-be-delivered-to-the-ground car. Read carefully all the advice about how these cars perform on the road and heed he advice that starts with "every time you get in a Cobra it hisses 'I'm going to kill you'"

If you can't wait consider a "crate motor". Shelby Engines sells completed engines. As does Roush...

You didn't say what kind/configuration you are looking for...

Thank you for the responses.. I appreciate the advice on searching and the caution around older postings.. I'll most likely be using it a lot.. As far as the engine, only thing i have decided on is that I want the more original design.. 427 cross bolted side oiler. Preferably aluminum but I'll work through that as time goes. I've talked to Lyle w/Southern automotive machine (I think that's the name) and have browsed both Kaase and Smedding websites. This is a two year project. Second year being this year.. I ended up going with Unique as ERA was over a year out and wasn't taking any more orders at the time. I already know I'll be needing interior, electrical, Motor/transmission/drive line. wheels, tires and probably more peripheral items than I can think of and probably a lot I don't even know I'll need yet. |

1985,I'm up here in the tail end of no where.. Cody WY.. Supposedly there is a fellow in town that has an original 1964 289 Cobra.. I might try to link up with him and see what, if any, clubs might be local.

Byron,Brent Lykins has been mentioned by a few folks so he is one I definitely need to contact in the next month or so.. I also ran across Bullock's Power Sports as a builder too. He's over in Nebraska which is relatively close to me so that part is appealing. Not wanting to get to crazy on the motor.. around the 450-500 range for HP/TQ at the flywheel.. I'll be on the hunt for interior, dash, electrical, transmission, drive line, wheels/tires and probably a host of other parts I don't know that I'll need yet..
