What Will I Change Now?

Our Cobra was completed years ago, but I often find myself looking for something to upgrade or change. For me, I believe its an excuse to fiddle with the car.

I have two small projects started now.
a. Just received an un-finished Moto Lita 16" split-center steering wheel from Nick Acton. Yesterday I taped and sanded it. Next.....staining and sealing.
b. I'm cobbling a pair of larger diameter and better breathing air filters, to replace the Stelling and Hellings 8 1/4" filters. This hasn't turned out to be a plug & play combination. There's been various sourcing and a fair amount of home tweaking.

Are any other owners afflicted with the need to add, change, upgrade? If you are, what have you changed recently or are working on now. :3DSMILE:

I think I spend more time under my car than in it. :)

David - can you post before and after pictures of the steering wheel?
Cheers,
Glen

Yes I will.

What will I change now? That's dangerous from experience. I'm stopped from health reasons and my car is on stands. Almost as bad as, Hey Watch This!

Clayboy 05-11-2014 09:28 AM

David,
The more you look at it, the more you find to do, and the more expensive and time consuming it becomes. Ask me how I know?
But it's fun though.

I have to constantly resist the urge to change things on my car. My emotional side wants flared fenders so I can run 335 tires out back.
My logical side says then I'll have to repaint the car, I'll worry about rock chips on the new paint, I'll have to get new wheels, the tires are expensive to replace, and it won't add value to my car. So far I'm holding out.

I'm going to change the gas as often as possible :)

Nice brake upgrade slipped on there recently too huh? Did you get the park hooked up and working yet?

I'll start a new thread on the rear brakes upgrade, maybe tomorrow. I have to re-size those photos.

I need a park brake handle. Nick, know where I can source one? :D

Hey Nick, I applied the 3rd coat of walnut stain on the steering wheel a few minutes ago. It's got great grain contrast. Thanks for the stain color suggestion.

O.K. I'll bite. While I very much like my Superformance, there are some things that have begun to make me cringe when I look at it. The more you look, the more things you see that are just not quite right. While it would be nice to change the roll bar and the hood latches... those are some of the modifications that will require some major changes, not to mention some paint work. The things that I have done are mostly fairly simple appearance changes; i.e.,gas cap, rear view mirror, oil cooler lines, painted side vents, etc. If anyone really wants to see a few more of the changes check out my album "spf 1473".

Just finished a new clutch this weekend. New Ring and Pinion Last year. New AFR heads and bump stick the year before that. Next year will be a new engine and trans as I just became the proud owner of a new list of parts that were in a high winding 418. (Scat Crank and rods. Pistons, cam shaft, lifters, harmonic balancer, etc). Now the planning begins.

Yes, but that's because you keep breaking stuff. ;)

David, I like your rear brake upgrade. I've never seen a parking brake setup like that.

joyridin' 05-14-2014 05:43 PM

I rebuilt and changed the rear gears on my Arntz. Added 11.5" vented rear disks on the Jag rear and a disk brake e-brake. I just changed the complete front end from the old MGB style to a new tube style and dropped about 125 pounds. Added a new reverse speedo also. Have a chrome roll bar but have not installed it. New Lexan wind wings and visors.

Next on the list: New engine.

I want to go from the Big Block Chevy to a stroked all aluminum Chevy small block, stroked to around 427cubes +/- tied to a 5 or 6 speed.

To answer 601HP's original post...

I'm currently changing my Holley Black pump, Holley regulator and standard steel braided fuel line to an Aeromotive pump/filter, RobBmc regulator and steel braided Teflon line.
All my Holley regulators were junk, the pump sounded awful and I wasn't getting the warm and fuzzies with it, and the teflon line so I wouldn't have to deal with rubber issues in the future.

I installed a Holley pump years back. Couldn't put up with the noise, even while driving a convertible with side pipes! I removed it within 30 days.

Mine howls also. It doesn't bother me too much when driving down the highway, but get in the city and it drives me nuts. One minute it sounds like it is actually pumping gas, the next it sounds like it is going to keel over and die!

rodneym 05-15-2014 03:52 PM

David and joyridin,
What do you have now?
