I am building ERA FIA 2158. Rather than document the entire build, I thought I would post a few of the things that I am doing that are somewhat different if anyone is interested.

More pictures the better, especially during Covid winter.....

Love the smooth hood without scoop. Shall we also assume no FIA bumps on the trunk?

Always interested in a replica FIA build :)
"Different" as in interesting and very original? ....not 'hotrod' or similar? :JEKYLHYDE

Cheers!

Just could not put a scoop on that beautiful hood or the bumps on the trunk. No eyelets in the doors either.

My Dad's Cobra, circa 1967

Now that is cool

Wonderful photo of your Dad and his Cobra. Looks like a great build, will your FIA emulate elements of his car?

The red seats, maybe? A great project!

I have great memories in that car, I learned to drive a stick in it. It was a bit of a monster, Gurney Westlake heads, Webers, hot cam and a HD clutch. This build is going to be built to look like a vintage track car with the stuff you see as original looking as possible and the stuff you don't see upgraded to modern tech. Without the hood scoop I guess I will have to be a 1967 B Production car. One of the "original details" I added were correct hood latches.

Cobalt289 03-11-2021 05:21 PM

Where'd you get the hood latches? I love original (or more original) parts - but too often don't know what needs to be changed out, or what it needs to be changed out for!

Great photo of your dad, too!

Here is a hot tip for any 289 owners. A White Lightning shifter with a offset adapter installed at a 45* angle up and to the left will position the shifter in a much more comfortable and more correct position.

👍

great inspiration for a great project

That is going to be a beautiful car when you are finished. Congratulations on a great job.

Here is another ERA FIA modification I made. The position of the gas cap is much too proud, I shortened the piece between the gas tank and the cap 7/8" to make it sit in a much nicer and more authentic position.

I recently bought 2052 ERA FIA. I do HPD instruction at Portland Raceway. I need to put in a full roll bar so I can take passengers on the track. I have seen pictures of member tkb289's FIA and would like to ask him some questions about his rollbar instillation. Or anyone who has done that to an ERA 289FIA. My email is mwoolsey@cni.net.

Hello ScarletG302,

Congrats on ERA2052. Would be glad to chat with you about the roll bar setup(s) in my FIA. I have sent you an email.

Now back to 6TNCRZY's build log ...

I had an old school Jones mechanical tachometer, I sent it out and had it converted to electronic to simplify things.

You may need to do the same thing with your fuel gauge based on it's current reading:LOL:
