I know, I know, you'll all give me lots of advice about why I shouldn't be doing this, but no one knows better than I that "parting can be such sweet sorrow," especially after you read why I bought the car below. A new marriage and the acquisition of a 16 year old daughter have made keeping company with my Cobra a conflict, however, so it's time to say goodbye for now. Here're the details:

It's Superformance No. 376, purchased new from House of Cobras in Orange, California, and registered as a 1965 Ford Cobra Convertible, which makes registration fees almost non-existent! It's red with white stripes, black leather interior, equipped with the 460 engine that churns 400 horsepower. It has the Tremec 3550 5 speed transmission and the Trigo knock-offs with original racing style Goodyear Eagle #1 yellow lettered tires. The car is two years old, and has only 3,000 miles. Being from La Jolla, it has never been in the rain, nor have the top/side curtains or tonneau ever been used (they're still in the wrapper!). It's detailed regularly, and, as those who have seen it at the detailer comment, "whether it needs it or not!"

A few extras include: Chrome roll bar, chrome quick jacks, silver thermaplate side pipes and exhaust manifold (straight through to the block), chrome fire extinguisher, custom floor mats, custom covers (one for winter-whatever that is, and one for summer), custom bra, lead hammer, oil cooler, twin fans, and all the other Superformance features.

It's well known at House of Cobras, since they just did a 3,000 mile service and the warranty repair/inspections and said it's by far the nicest 'used' (and they applied that word only because it's not a brand new one) Cobra they've ever had in their shop. My detailer is an anal retentive/obsessive compulsive as I am. I have a carpeted garage, for example, and the car is covered while it's sitting there.

The license plate, if it stays in California, could go with it, since I wouldn't have the heart to put it on anything else. It reads WILD CAR.

I have the appraisal for it, which describes it well, and has established market value at $49,500. The most important thing to me is that it goes to a good home, so purchase price is negotiable, and I've been told by House of Cobras mid-$40K, especially given its condition.

A side note, when my brother and I were growing up in the 60s, we bugged my dad to no end to buy a new Cobra, since he worked at Ford. Of course, with three kids, he bought the Country Squire instead, and eventually a 1965 Ford Mustang, poppy red, and the first one in town. Time went on and my brother had a son, and we all wished for the "car of our dreams" together. Two years ago, dad passed away, and I decided to have the Cobra made in his honor, so the dashboard has a plaque, which will not go with the car, that says, "In Memory of Our Father, Mr. Alex" (his nickname). Someday I'll return to the dream, but for now, I hope to pass it along to someone else who can care for the car as did I.

I appreciate any interest and help in selling the car from this forum and its members. You're all a class act, and this is the place I'd ideally like to find a new owner. Thanks.
