V-10 cobra on e-bay........

Can anyone give me input on this gentleman and or his car (he has three for sale). The V-10 package looks interesting but I have never heard of Hunter Kit cars - I do want a longer wheelbase so this is a plus. Thanks for the help.

Excaliber 07-03-2003 11:32 AM

Whoa,,,I heard Hunter was looking into putting V-10's in his car's. So wheres the link to the e-bay listing??? I want to check this out!

There are many references to Hunter on the Club here. He's got a solid reputation. Uses "Vette" suspension, not my cup of tea, but some like it.

I think this is the car referenced above...

In a word, I'd say that V-10 car is "different."

I don't particularly care for the sky blue color. Too street-rodish.

How about that Ferrari steering wheel ??

Y'all take it easy now, Brett

Excaliber 07-03-2003 12:54 PM

OH,,,,a Hunter KIT, not a Hunter built, big difference. Maybe it's a good build, maybe it aint, who knows?

....to bad that roll bar is so short...

Just don't look right without a bunch of carburetors on top........

Dan Stryffeler 07-03-2003 01:21 PM

Oh oh Perry,

Don't start a carb vs injection thing going here... course, I have three carbs - so I'm a little biased.

That looks like the Hunter V10 that Randy put together for a guy in Detroit who wanted to start building Cobras with Viper V10 engines. The car was at the Turkey Run last November at Randys display. Randy built the first one and was going to sell his Hunter to this guy to build and sell others. He said he should be able to put together a completed kit for about $58,000 for sale with the V10.

That car was at Carlisle this year, with the Hunter group.
He's a builder, using the Hunter platform.

Well - thanks for the input. Apparently quite a few of you know of this car. I could not really get a handle on your feeling concerning the kit (good, bad, or indifferent), the V-10 transplant (yea I know, 'no carbs'), etc. I would never buy off E-bay in that $ range without an inspection but, I am working in Columbus for a couple of months and if it does not sell maybe I'll bounce over one state and look at it.
I really am in the mood for a car - this feeling has been fermenting for some time. A pumped up 351 makes alot of sense to me. I am burned out on early '60's MOPARS and looking to 'step' up. BTW - I have a 7200 mile factory 426 cross-ram Belvedere 6-passenger wagon (needing a restore but no rust) that I will put on the block to ease the pain of purchasing my Cobra. This wagon is on SpeedVision and in Hot Rod mag - both times being beat by a Pontiac at the Winter Nationals.........must have been a traction problem).
Anyway, are there any solid feelings about the Hunter kit as versus other big name manufacturers - you guys are all such gentlemen that I know I'll have to read between the lines.

Thanks again for the input.

Ya just gotta love that 2+ "G" launch!

DV...Building the first and only true "Double Venoms'" since 1997! :)

Excaliber 07-03-2003 09:40 PM

Hey wait a minute!!! Isn't that a Double Venom built by DV? You don't suppose HE started all this do you?????

I think so!!

,,,,and if your looking for a nice Cobra, DV just happens to have a Classic Roadster Blue with White Stripes (5.0) for sale. In fact, some pics are in my gallery (couldn't resist the "plug" Ed, lol).

I have a Hunter and I think it is a great kit that compares to a Unique in quality of materials. The frame is robust and pretty heavy but the aluminum Corvette parts help keep the weight down. I just weighted my car right after Ed Kamptners(Engineer Ed on FFcobra.com) and my car weighs about 200# more than his FFR. He has a T-5 and I have a tremec with a explosion proof bellhousing so that accounts for over 100 # of differance. The HUnter also has full liners on the hood and trunk so that ac****s for a few more #. My wheels are 17" crager SS wheels and they probalby weigh 4 to 5# per wheel more than his 17" Cobra R wheels.

Randy bullds each and every one of his cars by hand and he has no employee's other than himself and his son so the quality control is very good.

I just checked and the current bid is only 24K. This car has a brand new viper crate motor that cost $20k from Dodge so I would say this uncompleted car is worth at least 40K and I could see as much as 50k. A viper cost mucha more and will not bring near as many stares and thumbs up.

CobraDan 07-04-2003 03:48 AM

Ruble,
If you read the Ebay add you will see it has a 2001 Viper V10 engine with 3K miles. I talked with this guy for about an hour when he was at the Turkey Rod Run. The car pictured had a used engine and they were waiting for a custom wireing harness to be able to fire it up. This guy from Detroit had some way of getting brand new engines and wanted to build Cobras with the Viper V10 engines installed. He may already be closeing up shop finding his supply of engines has dryed up.

If he is waiting for a "crate motor harness" and ECM, I wish him luck. We bought the last one out of the entire "nationwide" stock about three months ago. Getting "NEW" Crate motors was not a problem after Daimler-Chrysler went public with them in 2000. The problem now is, since Daimler-Chruysler went to the Gen. III motors there are no Gen. II motors left!

Waiting to build a model DV III as we speak :) Instead of threatening D/C again for refusing to sell the first motor outright, we've decided to wait a little and see if they release it on their own.

Maybe a Cp. for a DV III model ? :D

DV... Lighter than a 460 w/ aluminum heads by over 150 lbs!

JKleiner 07-04-2003 06:11 AM

Hmm, let's think about this. DV has gotten ahold of one of the first Laguna Spyders. DV knows how to squeeze Viper motors into places they were not intended to be. Oh yeah, the the light bulb came on and the wheels are turning now! That could be just about TOO MUCH fun!

Dan

My bad. This must be a differant Hunter with a viper motor as he had one with a crate motor in his shop about 7 months ago. Maybe I just misunderstood or my memory was jared racing in the Willis Wonhundred. :D

CobraDan 07-04-2003 11:34 AM

Ruble,
I can understand after you tried to burn up your engine. The engine in the car at the Turkey Run was used but he had some pull to get all the new Viper engines he wanted from Mopar and was waiting on a custom built wiring harness as he didn't need a Viper harness with 77 inputs when all he needed was one that told the FI to put some gas in the beast and run.
