Lost Job. Need to sell Cobra.
Guys, my uncompleted Shell Valley is for sale due to some events that occurred the last couple of days. I think I'm just gonna bow out gracefully right now and see if I can come back a little ways down the road.
Shell Valley 427S/C...less than a year old. It's rolling....and it's driveable as long as you don't need a windshield, a battery box, or front brakes.....hehehe.... It's got a 425ci Windsor stroker....484hp, 500 lb-ft torque.....Toploader 4 speed, 9" Ford with Strange nodular iron housing and Richmond gears. I spared no expense in putting the engine together...I have a dyno video, all receipts, pictures, and notes during my build. Same way with the car. In a nutshell, the car needs: Front brake calipers, windshield, carpet, battery box, fuel cell, filler cap, wheels/tires, paint, front coilovers (it has some homemade shocks on the front for right now), door latches, hood latches, trunk prop, lights, and rollbar. It's basically a roller with the complete drivetrain installed...just needs accessories. I have many many pictures...there are some in my gallery....will provide more upon request. The ones in the gallery aren't very up to date. The car is sitting on temp wheels and tires now....with sidepipes installed....driveable. I'm looking at my spreadsheet....I have $24k in it so far....I'll consider any offer within reason. |
Man this stinks! You WILL be back!
Folks, blykins and I have shared some pictures, build experience, advise etc. I must tell you that what has been done has been so with a lot of thought and care. He has been building this to be the best he can from day one. Check it out! Rick |
Thanks for the kind words Rick.

Hey, doesn't DV need a car to replace the donation vehicle?
Dude, what do you do? Maybe someone on this forum can hook you up? How bad can it be? If it has only been two days... Dang! Have ya looked at this from every angle? What do ya need? I mean is the car going to be a source of income or are you abandoning ship? Sorry to hear of this for you. |
I'm a Mechanical Engineer...with mainly manufacturing and design experience.
Tru....it's pretty bad....hehehe..... |
blykins,
Sorry to hear this. I enjoyed meeting you a few months back. Please don't be a stranger around CC while you are waiting to start your next project. Best of luck to you. |

Sorry to hear about your employment. I might have some leads for a ME design job in the Greenville, SC area if you are interested. Send me a resume if you want and I'll float it around. Keith.Brown@hedus.com Good Luck, Keith |
Blykins:
I are you sure that you want to bail this quick? Is the job market that tight? To give up on something that you have put your blood, sweat, and tears in is not an easy decision. Maybe make this the last choice instead of the first choice. I tell you this: to build one of these cars from the ground up and never get to drive it at least once. I think I would rather pass about 10 kidney stones in row first   Believe me I've done it several times. Keep a positive attitude, keep your chin up but ever give up on your dreams. Life is too short for that!!:3DSMILE: J.A. |
Hey Keith....I really appreciate your help, but if I can, I'd rather stay around this area. Through all the junk that has happened recently, I was making plans to be engaged this weekend. I've tried for several weekends now, but I'm old-fashioned and would rather ask her dad....but I haven't been able to get to him. But anyway, to make a long story short.....I have a girl here, and if I can help it, I'd like to stay around here close.
I really appreciate all the advice and kind words guys. You guys are like a big family. JA, the job market is that bad buddy....for ME's anyway. Should have been a nurse. |
I understand completely. I am an ME also and can tell you that the market is starting to pick back up. Good luck and let me know if I can help.
Good luck and congrats on your upcoming engagement. Regards, Keith |
Hey blykins,
You know, once you marry her, her dad will probably let you take her with you to SC. I hope that at least put a smile on your face, but I agree with some of the others, you should make a plan of attack before you start acting. |
ME job
...sent you an email. I have an associate who is in a search for an ME with an automotive background - contact info is in the email.
|
HOOOLDDD ON TO YER LUGNUTS! It's time for an over haul!
Dang! Put yer house in order. GOCATS is right, you will be talking "I should have" for the rest of your life if you bail now. You are not that far from Ohio, try expanding the search. Every time I got laid off, I just didn't buy parts for the car. Do you owe on it? If it is clear, just stash it. Don't get me wrong, but I will be sorry to not see you finish that car. |
Blykins-
Please estimate the funding you would need to finish your project, (in your head), including parts and a reasonable amount of labor. Then please PM me. I am as serious as I get. Thanks, man. UT |
Terry, I tried to reply to your email, but it came back to me twice. I sent you an email through here....hope it reaches you. If I don't hear back from you, I'll send you a PM. Thanks......
UT, your PM is coming. |
Blykins- let me qualify this...
I would like to know what it would take YOU, financially, to make your dream ride turn-key, including your own labor. I repeat, I'm as serious as I ever get. Please PM me. UT |
Very interesting UT. If anything comes of this it would be nice to know.
But, perhaps blykins simply needs the cash to tied him over. Marriage is expensive! Cars are cheaper:D Rick |
Rick, Rick, Rick.
Marriages are Cheap. Divorces are expensive, like girls in college. Blykins is a Cobra guy who is actually building his own machine. I crushes my heart to see him have to part with it. Built a '32 Coupe in my wasted youth, I figure I made about 50 cents per hour for my own labor. I am nobody and nothing, but I am a treacherous old fart. Hey, try selling a half-built house... been there, done that. It hurt. UT |
You are not just whistling dixie! Divorce IS expensive. Something I never want to experience. But, if you don't get married, you can't get divorced. Plus marriage leads to that other money suckers, children!
I REALLY hope blykins can work this out without selling his car. I know what it would do to me. Rick |
