Question Buyer in Belgium???

Hey Gang:
I recently received email and a telephone call from a person in Belgium (I'll omit the name for now) who said he was interested in buying my SPF. This type of sale would require shipping the car there and who know what else. Is this some sort of scam or am I just being paranoid? If I lived in Belgium, I don't think I would be buying a car from a guy in Connecticut!

What's the story?

Bob

Bob,
No need to be paranoid but caution should rule the day. There are many scams going around very similar to your scenario. Remember that nothing is better than cash (Western Union.) Certified and cashiers checks have recently been hitting the banks and turning out to be counterfeit. However, the bank has already paid you after 48 hours and the check takes 2 weeks or so to bounce back.

Mrmustang recently sold a car to a fellow in Germany, I believe. You may want to contact him for some guidelines.

Cool

Hi,

It may welll likely be a legitimate inquiry. I just purchased a car ('59 Cadillac, no comments! ) from LA and am having it shipped to Ireland. I am also on the look out for a CSX to join my GD 427 CObra. Most people would assume a Cobra in Ireland is nuts considering the roads!

Having said thast assume everyone is out to get you!

Get funds into your account and FULLY cleared before you contemplate releasing the vehicle. If the buyer has a problem with that find an escrow company. If that causes an issue then stay well clear of him.

When I purchase a vehicle from the US (6 in the last 6 months) I have in ALL cases had funds arrive at the far end before the vehicle moves.

Good luck with the sale!

Paul

Paul,
One thing I know is that the US dollar is currenly very weak (actually it is in the toilet) which gives overseas buyers alot more buying power.

You can make arrangements with your bank to open an account soley for this transaction so that payment can be wired into it.
