Well I thought I'd check in... any goodwill coming back in your direction?

I sent an email and the response was that they received my block in house on Wednesday and were going to look at it on Thursday. I haven't heard a word since.

I was talking with a machine shop yesterday that was honing an Iron block from the same company. They said they encountered holes in the casting on one cylinder and that after honing, the bore diameter varied .002" -.003" because there was deflection during the honing process related to wall thickness variation.

I've been watching your progress with resolving the porosity problem. A block that has porosity problems in the cylinder walls has porosity problems elsewhere also. Elsewhere can easily be the main webs. Last thing you need is to start cracking and/or pulling main webs out of the block.

The block they sent you is basically scrap metal. If it gets sleeved and resold the new owner runs a high probable risk of structural failure elsewhere in the block because of the same porosity. When the failure finally occurs there will be yet more posturing about whose at fault for the failure.

There is no guarantee that they either understand the reason for the porosity or know how to fix it. Imagine getting a replacement block only to suffer the same porosity problems but in a less obvious location - and probably similar or worse delays in getting a replacement. Sadly, the replacement for the second block will probably be as bad as either of the first two.

I think you might want to consider a value for value exchange. A refund of your monies for a return of their block and then use a different manufacturer.

PANAVIA Steve There are a couple of reasons. To start with FAMILYS that have people working there need to live. Next this block was NOT having minor machine work and assemblied. If you had read the threads from the beginning, Doug machinist ordered parts for the first block, a 427 SO that couldn't be machined .047" over without having thin walls. The guy thought that by filling the block with creteloc to fill the water passages to the bottom of the water pump holes, this would work. This is great for a race block, but out on the street in 95 degree weather, COOKER. I have never seen this game played before. They ordered a new block, with standard bore because of the pistons and machine the bores to the piston because they where custom. They where trying to save money. Should have eaten the pistons and gone with a stock bore.The Machinist was not named either. Every motor I have built, the machine work is done first, the only thing done last is honing the cylinder bores with a stone for getting the correct crosshatches and depth of the grooves for the rings I am using. No new block is prefect, I know from my Shelby blocks, I still brought 2 of them knowing that both needed work. There are guessing about 1,000 plus Shebly blocks in cars now, I have heard of only to failures, both racing. Does this mean we should stop buying Shelby Blocks? I see people still buy Dove parts.%/ I have bought Dove parts even with their manufacturing problems of the pass. The problem is and was Tim, Genesis is not the whole problem. If the motor that Doug had used, Genesis iron and only needed clean up for a street car, it would have runs for years without failure. There where PLENTY of mistakes to go around on this. The bottom line is Doug getting a motor in his car before Christmas. Steve Lawsuits are a growing thing, and into days world you better be 98% correct before going after a company. If you still haven't heard anything from the G_____ people I might start questioning whether their heart is in the right place on this....:(

OK, here's the latest. I'll hold off on all the details until the block actually arrives and is proven to be non- defective. However, they emailed me today that an aluminum block was shipped to me this afternoon. I was shipped an aluminum block for about $100 more than the cost of a cast iron block. Again, once it arrives and I know it's not defective, and I'm sure I don't have to deal with them again I'll divulge all the details, but I will say this - it isn't nearly as peachy and benevolent as it sounds here. 2 1/2 months later, more than 60 unanswered calls (yes, I can document this with phone records), a total of ONE returned call, a painfully obvious defective block (yes, I have detailed photos of the carnage) , insinuations of dishonesty, a completely missed driving season, and so much more, and a new block is finally on it's way. frickin' yippee.....:rolleyes:

I'm no stranger to delays and a few heartaches as they relate to cars, and trust me when I say, it will all melt away once you get in the driver seat and drive.

That is the best news I've heard all week. I would think that they inspected/tested it before sending it to you so I'm betting it's in good shape. Alright, with a little luck you'll be driving before the end of the summer.

Nice to hear these people have finally taken care of you. Musta been the new owner. One lucky scenario, as you would have been out of luck (and motor) if the company had filed for bankruptcy. All given, I'm glad you can finally put this behind you and get your Cobra on the road. Good luck with the new motor.

Guys, it was like pulling teeth right to the very end, it was made as difficult as it possibly could have been. These guys are brutal, just completely brutal to deal with. I'm planning a long and thorough fully documented thread once this is all done, there's lots you don't know. These guys are just ABSOLUTELY brutal and shameless.

By the way, how do I post pictures to a thread when CC tells me they're too big? I'm a computer zero.

I think its time to get out the 4.250 boring machine and celebrate by boring a big hole in a crappy vendor. :D

Patrick, if you don't mind I'll take you up on your offer. I'm away from home right now, I'll send them to you as soon as I get back in a few days. Once you guys see this block you won't believe that it took the better part of three months to resolve this issue.

My goal isn't revenge on these guys, although they deserve that and more. I just want everyone to know before they deal directly with these guys what they'll be up against. Keith Craft tried to warn me, and I was too stupid to listen. That one's on me. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice.......
I just want everyone to be forewarned on what this company's idea of customer service is. It's shameful and pitiful.
