Default Help with my CCX

Okay I am getting ready to renew my NYS safety inspection and noticed my horn wasn’t working. I went looking for it and can’t find it. I checked the manual and they said to install it on the foward passenger frame but I don’t see it. Taking a survey of where people have their horns mounted.

Also I was trying to see if I had high beams and warning flashers. The turn signal has a button on the dash side but it doesn’t do anything. Were these cars built with high beams and/or warning flashers? If so how do you operate them?

Yes, you are correct about the location of the horn. Right side mounted slightly ahead of the tire. The wire should be coming out of the main harness just ahead of that. If you need a pic of mine, let me know.

No warning flashers on mine, but the headlight high beam is a button close to the driver door. As for a turn signal, I've got a lever off the steering column, so I cannot help you there.

I have the turn signal on my steering column also (right side) and just noticed it has some type of lever/button on the back of it. Need to figure out how they built this car still

I have never looked at a CCX wiring diagram. That said, the steering stalk is likely a variation of the VW bug stalk. The little button on the back of the stalk when pushed provides a ground signal to a latching relay fastened somewhere near the steering column. The latching relay has 12v+ coming in from the headlight switch, which has a feed that is hot all the time, and the latching relay sends 12v+ to either the high or low beam wires, through intermediate fuses probably at the fuse box, and that's how it works to light and switch your high and low beam. Some latching relays have a wiring option that allows FTP (flash to pass). I have a thread on that over in the ERA forum. Mucho coolo. Now remember I've never actually looked at a CCX.

The button in question is for the the switching between high and low beams on your headlights. Horn button should be on the dash. Horn mounting, could have been as stated above, could also be on the side of the radiator, one of mine had them mounted similar to ERA, center front cross member.

Also trying to figure out how to turn on high beams and hazards.

The horn button is Lucas - nothing from Lucas is reliable. Did you check the button?

Might not have hazards, high beams should turn on when motor is running, and headlights are on, click switch in turn signal stalk and high beams will come on if they are still good (they do burn out, most people ignore them, so never realize this has occurred). The stalk is a VW item and still available from dozens of suppliers (CLICK HERE). Headlight and horn relay (CLICK HERE) also Volkswagen, and available over the counter at your local auto parts store.

Horn, yes, check under the dash to see if the wire has pulled from the back of the button itself. Otherwise, time to start looking at the front end of the car for where the horns are mounted, if not factory built, they could be anywhere ahead of the firewall.

Thanks!! I was testing the high beam switch with the car off, that’s probably why it wasn’t working.

For the horn button I checked the two green wires first to make sure they were still attached. I’ll crawl under there today and jump them to rule out the button.

I appreciate everyone’s help!

I want to thank everyone for the help. I located my horn. It was in the passenger side fender well, up too towards the front. After taking it out and bench testing it, it was good. Just bad ground. Put it back and it works fine.

Now the high beams. Still not working i]even with the car running. If I play with the switch a bunch I can sometimes get the headlights to flicker but that’s it. I’ll be researching a good replacement and changing it out. Anyone ever do this before? Is it simply pulling the steering wheel and sliding it up and out?
