Dscc April 2002 Scheduled Events

I want to start this on a new topic to make it easier to find the data, so here goes.

Saturday Morning-Show & Shine @SouthernAutomotive 8AM

Details of the track event

This is a 3/8 mile high banked oval track-driving over your head is extremely dangerous to both car and driver. When you spin, you crash into a concrete wall! Both fire truck & ambulance will be in attendance during entire event. If ambulance is in use outside the track, NO cars will be allowed on the track.

Pre-registration and payment IS required, NO deviations allowed
-$50 sent to our secretary before March 15th, 2002
-Tech inspection and sign-in; Friday at Southern Automotive-5PM
till 6PM ONLY, NO exceptions allowed
-Requirements for drivers/cars as follows:

All cars must have roll bars welded or bolted to the car frame
All drivers must wear driving suits or long shirts and Snell 95 (or better) approved helmets.
No loose equipement allowed (this includes fake knock-offs)
All gas tank closures must be secure to not leak in turns (LeMans caps need modification or a "hand ball" insert).
Waivers are required to be signed for the track AND the DSCC, both during tech.
Absolutely NO passengers on the track, EVER, NO exceptions
One car at a time, 5 laps each-all cars run till our times out at 12 noon.
Drivers meeting at the track, Mandatory for all drivers at 8AM
NO spectators allowed-drivers/owners and crew only-NO exceptions (if your not paid or pre-registered as crew, you don't get in, period).

The standard DSCC rules for tech apply (see our web site)

I hope I covered all the questions, but ask, anyway. We need to start a RSVP on our web site for the meeting, because we need a head count for the food places and the caterer What are your thoughts about having a $5 registration fee (non-refundable) for the meeting which would include a dash plaque from Dan (they are very nice)? This would be $55 for people going to the track event on Sunday

I'm In

Jerry,

I'll start this thing off by saying my wife and I will be in attendance for the entire weekend and have made reservations at the Motel. I'm also in agreement with your money assessments and any monies left over should go into our Treasury to be used as the DSCC sees fit. Bill and Susan Parham are throwing the free catered lunch and we need a head count if you want to be included. Jerry you didn't say if you are attending?

Dan I'll be there with "bells on"!

Hooray for the Sunday event. Can someone elaborate on the "no loose equipment" requirement in specific relation to knock-offs? I can understand not having anything loose within the cockpit, but what does it mean for knock-offs, real or fake? Would Trigo style knock-offs need to be safety-wired? Not sure what is meant by a "fake knock-off". Sorry to be so nit-picky and show my ignorance, but I am curious.

Mike I 12-03-2001 02:41 PM

ToyCollector, the "fake knock-offs" refer to bolt on replica wheels that have a decorative spinner, usually held on with set screws or similar type retention hdwe that could come loose and allow the spinner to separate from the wheel while racing. These types of spinners are to be removed prior to tech inspection. Pin drive wheels or true knockoffs are allowed, but must be "safety'd" in place. Comprende? ;)

Jerry & Dan, count me in for the entire weekend, wouldn't miss it for the world.....:3DSMILE:

My wife and I will be there Friday & Saturday. Will probably skip the track event though. Made reservations a while back at the Holiday Inn.

Toycolledctor, Mike is correct about the spinners. These have a way of coming loose at the wrong times. No loose gear means no tools, cleaning gear, carpet mats, extra hats, gloves or anything else that can be adrift during track runs. The fire extinguisher must be secured also. A "puke tank" is required to catch engine water/fluid that might overflow the system. One cup of water on the track can cause you to spin, and on a high bank, believe me, you don't want to spinout-leave that for the grass!

This event is non-competitive so you can run your own pace, no one will push you at all. it will be a fun experience as long as you take it easy and remember your insurance is NOT going to cover your mistakes!

Hey Jerry,
My wife and I will be there, though we may
pass on the track event, but it would be nice if
there were a way for some of us who just wanted
to watch could attend the track, maybe as
spotters or track workers. I am all for the
$5.00 for the registration.

Jerry,

I hope to be able to make it. My schedule has been pretty hectic lately, but I'm hoping it will have slowed down by April, so count me in. I've made reservations at the Holiday Inn, 12-13 Apr.

Well, after bugging everyone else about it for so long, I finally made my reservations. There are now 14 rooms available at the rate of $59+tax.

CobraDan 12-05-2001 12:31 PM

I just got off the phone with Bill from Southern Automotive and you don't want to miss this event. Bill is putting something else together and spending a lot of his time and money and it would be nice to have a complete head count.

Dan

As posted in the other thread, I'm in!

aumoore 12-05-2001 10:49 PM

I guess since I have the DSCC checkbook I have to be there. Already made reservations months ago.

Johan 12-06-2001 05:57 AM

I plan to attend, but it is our wedding anniversary. If I get a "HAPPY ANNIVERSARY" banner made, can I hang it up, so that the ole lady thinks this gig is an anniversary party? I don't see how she would ever figure it out......She told me there was a COBRA at the EXXON station yesterday , so I went flying down there and it was an MGA.....Yes, she is a blond.

aumoore 12-06-2001 06:48 AM

John
Bring the banner and we will observe your anniversary.

Besides you have 51 other weeks to make it up to her. This is a COBRA event she will understand trust us we are your friends!:3DSMILE:
