Thumbs up June Snake 'n' Bake Report

Photos courtesy of Clyde Hill (chill)

Some of the Atlanta-area DSCC members gathered on June 8th to eat BBQ and talk cars. For the first time in quite a while, the weather actually participated for the gathering. (What a shocker.)

Jerry Witt (SPF), Alvin Reid (E-M), Jim Kiple (SPF), Chip Bearing(Unique), and I (Honda Accord, small block, no stripes) met at a Quick Trip station in Kennesaw around 11:00. From there, we traveled north to Ellijay (easily a 1-hour trip). On our way, Toy Collector (SPF) called me to see where we were. As it turned out, he was just a few hundred yards ahead of us. He slowed and we eventually overtook him. So we headed north with no less than 5 magnificent Cobras shining in the full sun. The other motorists gawked shamelessly and I had quite a sight in my rear-view mirror!

Charlie Wilcher (E-M) and Clyde Hill (enthusiast with a Harley) just missed our caravan on the interstate and arrived slightly later at Colonel Poole's Barbecue in Ellijay.

Eric Ondras (Unique) had planned to meet us at Colonels Poole's from the beginning, so he arrived soon after in his red Unique (with a hard-top, I might add).

L-R: Charlie Wilcher's E-M, Eric Ondras' Unique, Clyde Hill's Harley, Jerry Witt's SPF, Toy Collector's SPF, Jim Kiple's SPF.
Not shown: Alvin Reid's E-M, Chip Bering's Unique, and of course my Honda.

If you're keeping count, that's seven Cobras and two enthusiasts (me and chill). This drew quite a bit of attention from some Harley riders in the area as well as many of the BBQ patrons.

Jerry Witt shows off his engine.

My cousin Adam admires Jim Kiple's SPF. Now, if I could just get him this interested in his school grades...

As you can see, the weather was perfect!

Here's the beautiful Harley that chill drove to the luncheon.

The BBQ was fantastic and I believe everyone had some fun. After lunch, many of the guys had to leave and a few of us elected to drive over to Eric's to see his "little car collection". That's an entire story unto itself. Suffice it to say that Eric's CC handle should be MR. Toy Collector (that was Toy Collector's suggestion, not mine).

I hope everyone had as much fun as I did and arrived home safely. I'm planning to skip July and August because of the heat (unless some of you are interested in meeting at night for dinner somewhere).

If all goes as planned, I can attend the September gathering in my very own Cobra!

Keith
