Georgia Cobra Events

I am a new member from South Ga. Just took delivery of my new SPF (Royal Blue/White Stripes) Southern Automotive 427/stroked with 2 ,4bbls. Bill, Susan, and Dennis all did a great job for me. I would like to meet some other Cobra owners and see their fine machines. Please let me know if anyone has planned any get to gathers, especially in the State of Ga. or North Fla. I would like to know the names of some of the Ga. and Fla. owners. If something comes up please send me an E-mail (cooleyhobdy@hotmail.com) or a call at 229-560-3622

Thanks,

Cooley Hobdy

Cooley,

I try to arrange Cobra luncheons in the Atlanta area once a month. We decided to skip July and August because of the heat (at least that's the plan at the moment). There has been some talk of possibly getting together for dinner or something which wouldn't be so terribly miserable. Barring that, we'll begin having the luncheons again in September.

Let's see... you're in Valdosta... A trip to Atlanta just for lunch might be a bit far. I'm sure some of the Florida guys may have some gatherings closer to your area. Whaddya say, guys?

Welcome to the club. I picked up my Unique last Friday and it's being painted now. Bill and Susan also did my engine.

Keith :)

Cooley,
There are more than 125 members in Florida but Keith is trying to catch up with Georgia membership. Just keep following the posts here and we will try and keep you informed. You can always try and set something up locally your self, just post a date, time, and place. We need more people trying to get the locals together. Hope to see you at our 3rd. annual event next year.
Dan
Heat it's not the heat it's all the rain, 1-3 inches in less than an hour. Cobras don't like rain.

Cooley Hobdy,

Welcome to the Cobra family. I will have to ask Bill P if I should challenge you to a drag race :3DSMILE:

Keith and John Woerheide,

Since I missed out last time, maybe we could do some drag runs in Sept at the "airstrip" that will go unpublished and unmentioned, in the AM. That would be fun!! Then BBQ at my place if you want for lunch.

excelguru 07-26-2002 11:52 AM

Mike,

That sounds like a great idea to me! I was just thinking this morning that I needed to start planning something for Sept. Unfortunately, my car will be on the sidelines since my engine will still be within its 90-day warranty period (hi Susan - I know you read this forum). That's okay, I'll enjoy watching and cruising, anyway.

I'll call John and see if he can acquire access to the "location" for some Saturday morning. After that I'll post a meeting point somewhere near Atlanta. We'll drive from there to the "secret place". BBQ at your place sounds great to me, but bear in mind that our head count has increased with each outing!

Input? Feedback? Anyone? Anyone? Beuller?

Keith :)

Count me in, I will win this thing. Pinto is gone and has been replaced with the firebud. It has run poorly in the past, but I am going to change some of the spark pluds and see if that makes a difference before changing all of them . Some are hard to get to. I can go 100 in first gear but is slow off the line, so sure go ahead and pass me but then look out herre I come...whoosh. Let's limit it to just a few of us...No automatics..
but one fun thing would be a group drag race. All start at the same time, with the faster cars out front. Get some good video of that one, from the rear cars.

Kieth, I looked at the pictures of your car. BEAUTIFUL........
but, there is one big problem that would be easy to fix, and cheap.
It needs a driveshaft loop.
Maybe it has one and I just did not see it. yes that drive shaft is short. but it will give you a bad case of Cobra elbow if you lost a u joint. Nice looking car for sure. When will it be burning gas ? Soon I hope. I don't know how you sleep at night.

ToyCollector 07-26-2002 12:55 PM

Sheesh, Spyderman's "talking trash" already, a true racer at heart! Spyderman, you gotta post some pics of these creations of yours!!

Keith, I need to understand this 90 day warranty bit?? My theory is usually see what you can break in the first 90 days!! Oh I get it, cause Susan read's the forum, we have to pretend that you would only be watching. trust me, should you need to go their showing them Jason-like designer push rods, they will see right through that ruse. Ask Jason, he knows!!

ToyCollector 07-26-2002 01:03 PM

Spyderman, now you got me thinking...maybe I can wedge a turbine out of small Bell helicopter into my 944...hmmm...Or have you tried that already? :3DSMILE:

CobraDan 07-26-2002 01:10 PM

I have never tried changing SPARK PLUDS to make my car faster.  You Georgia guys are a HOOT!

This was a Pinto. She is gone , but i am still into Pintoism. Non-Pintoists will probably laugh at my cars, but they are very special to me. I may not know how to spell , and I may not have the hottest car at the car show and recieive the no votes for best car or all the votes for worst car there, but at least i was there and participating with what i had. When I am at the race track I always have a fender that needs paint on it for sure, so I try to find the guy that laughed at my car and put some of his paint on my fender. Cobradad, my color was yellow, but not anymore, so don'y worry. I don'not know what a hoot is but I am sure I do not like being called one. And to think that you are the leader of this club and yet making bigoted statements like that on the internet is something to think about sir.

CobraDan 07-26-2002 04:37 PM

Spyderman,
A hoot is a sound that an owl makes, I only made a comment in jest. I thought spark pluds was funny, and it's CobraDAN not Dad my kids have been gone a long time. I thought we all knew what the smilies meant.
  laughing out loud

patrija 07-26-2002 07:56 PM

Mike - I have no idea what you're talking about...

:D

tinker 07-26-2002 08:11 PM

I would also be interested. I'm a newbie and would like to meet other cobra owners in atlanta Gerry

Dave Crace 07-26-2002 08:14 PM

Spyderman,
Be sure you don't bring slicks. That would be cheating. You must run DOT tires or you will not be allowed to participate. You will be able to run new pluds though. Maybe we should get the owner of this race track do a tech inspection also. What is Pintoism anyway? Is that anything like Shintoism? I do like your idea of all of the cars taking off at one time. Loser buys beer. And Keith, a partially broke in engine is no excuse :D

excelguru 07-29-2002 10:08 AM

Man, you guys are a HOOT! I mean it! Really!

I was pretty busy this past weekend, but I'll try to call JW today or tomorrow and get something started. Hopefully the airstr... uh, dragstrip will be available. It would be pretty cool if "you know who" was actually in town to come out and watch us race... uh, I mean watch YOU GUYS race on his "track". :D

Tinker - We look forward to having you join us! The more noise and fuel consumption, the better!

Spyderman - Will the all-girl pit crew that I heard about be there? Just kidding. Look forward to meeting you!

Everyone - Personally, I liked the Perimeter Mall meeting area that we used last time. It seems to be the most convenient place for people in or around Atlanta. There's a nice coffee shop there (attached to the mall) with some pretty good breakfast food. And the mall security guard (a real car guy, himself) did a pretty good job of watching after the Cobras. It's a pretty long drive from there to the "secret place", though. Not that that matters to me!

Keith :)

Spyderman 07-29-2002 03:40 PM

my pit crew has heard
....JW and "you know who" are flying to Missouri Wednesday to drive dirt cars for a charity event with 8 winston cup drivers. This means either Wednesday is out or Wednesday is in depending on how you look at it.I think we better wait for permission, but if Kieth still want to go anyway it is his party.
JW's Lola's fuel injection is being re-timed and upon completion, will need to be run up and down the "track" for adjustment purposes. Perhaps this might work out as there will be a car using the "track" anyway, then the car goes to the "museum" and a tour could perhaps be arranged.
JW was not too thrilled about me bringing 20 people up there though, and I have not been able to get him to call me back to see if just 5 of us would be OK. I'll keep on it, he can run but nobody hides from Spyderman. Let's make it like a cornerless roadrace ! back and forth, back and forth, but stay on your side of the road. Cool Howdy Dooty and the hoots, we will start a new group .

excelguru 07-29-2002 06:12 PM

Uh... Wednesday is definitely too soon. I think we were discussing something for September, right? Heck, my car is still being painted right now.

Yea, I would imagine that 20 folks would be a tad much for "his" place. Of course, if we wind up with that many people, I'm sure we can find some other activities to get us into trouble. :3DSMILE:

Keith :)
