Unique for sale, good deal or not?

Unique owners,
I have a buddy looking into buying his first cobra and I saw a unique for sale over on cobracountry for $15,900. This includes a 351 and a C-6 tranny and jag rear. Looks like it needs body work and paint. Wonder if anyone has any info on this car and or owner? Seems like a very low price for a unique with engine and driveline. Any info or assistance would be appreciated.

Regards,
Greg

Greg,
If this is the one I think it is (in Kentucky somewhere) then if you do a search here there are a couple of threads related to this car and its owner. I think it has been for sale on and off for some years now and it sounds like the owner is..shall we say...
a little "Teched in the Haid" but I couldn't say for sure I just remember reading some threads about it.

Have a good one,
Dan

Greg-
Dan's right. There is a long history with this car. Tell your buddy to look elsewhere.

A looooooong history. I'm tired of hearing about "spence" and his Cobra. I called him a couple of years ago and he said he was busy and to call him back in 30 minutes. Never answered the phone after that. Busy coming up with reasons not to sell that POS I guess. Alan Weaver told me the frame had been cut or something and the car was irrepairable.

Now I bet you are real glad you asked!!! Info like that makes this board invaluable. Thanks Brent for the service you provide.

Gentlemen,
Thanks for your information on this car and seller. I will ensure my friend continues his search elsewhere. It's great having such a knowledgeable group looking out for each other.

The kook in Kentucky has sold his car. The buyer called Unique the other day and talked to Alan. From what I heard is real happy with it.

That's great news. I'm glad someone bought it who can hopefully can do something with it. I hated to see a potentially completed car sitting for what must have been two years. Good luck to him.

poorboy 03-07-2003 07:29 PM

It sat for more than 5 years or more. Spence wanted me finish it for him while he camped in my parking lot.

This car is now in Huntsville, AL. Current owner has not touched it, and is probably looking to sell it again (no time) for around what he paid for it (15-16K).

Looking for a good home?

Should we start an adoption agency for wayward Cobras?

I can't believe that thing surfaced again....

I thought it had found a home and the new owner was happy with it...

mgreene 10-16-2003 12:41 PM

It had a mid '70s? vintage 351W and a C6 auto in it. Car currently has a B&M Shifter auto shifter in it.

Does anyone have pictures of this "Cobra." When I get a chance to see one in worse shape than mine it makes me feel better about mine.

Since there are so many of you with wonderful cobras, I don't get that feeling very often.

When I read someone finished their cobra in 2 month that makes me really feel ill.

I know, I am sick.

HIQ 10-16-2003 01:24 PM

What a waste. I hope this car finds a home with the $$ and expertise to get things right.

decooney 10-16-2003 07:41 PM

This car must have been cursed by its first owner. I too cannot believe we are reading about it again. Its the unfinished Cobra that won't go away. I talked with the last seller a few times for two interested friends and just could not get anyone interested enough to risk it. As I recall, the car did need a lot of work, older MGB front, no susp. upgrades, would have to remove the body and start over and check everything out. Probably a good time to sell it to someone who cares to tackle it, or maybe just throw some gas on it, light it on fire to put it out of its misery once and for all. :)

Who's selling it this time and what is their contact information?

Who knows? Send me an email or PM if you know. Thanks, Duane.

mgreene 10-17-2003 06:52 AM

Duane,

Sent you a PM with contact info...

Guys--

Just wanted to point out the fact that the MGB front suspension is not a bad thing if properly set up. In fact, we had fastest time of day at cobrafest 2001 with our 289-FIA using the non-upgraded MGB suspension and Dodge Aspen brakes provided with the original pallet kit.

On the other hand, I don't think that I would touch this particular car at any price given its history.
