Reptile Roundup 2004 with pictures
SPF brought a lot of cars down from Atlanta, this was just one of two Coupes they brought as you can see the other red coupe is parked behind.
http://www.mcmichaelmotorsports.com/ http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d..._Coupe-med.jpg Big Daddy was on the property and we got him to pick the winning ticket for the 50/50 drawing as we only sold about 1/3rd the tickets needed to give away the BDR roller. The winner will be getting a check for $5,000 as his share of the 50/50 drawing. Reg Dodd offered to allow the winner to use his winning ticket to help purchase the roller at the price of $20,000 instead of the normal asking price of $28,900. The winner is Rob Sapsford of Acworth, Ga and with his winnings and an additional $15,000 he is purchasing the BDR Cobra from Reg. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d..._Daddy-med.jpg The Wing House girls were in attendance and I had them pose in front of Joe Johnsons Cobra and 42 foot motor home. Joe and his wife are living full time in this huge motor home and with the inclosed Cobra trailer behind I think Joe is over the legal limit of length by an inch. Joe was kind enough to climb up on top of his rig to take some pictures for me again thanks Joe. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d..._Girls-med.jpg Mike Ritter came all the way from the state of Alabama to sell our Reptile Roundup 2004 T Shirts that his wife does for our annual event. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...Shirts-med.jpg Don Garlits Museum on Drag Racing should be seen by everyone at least once. It's only $6.00 or $5.00 for me at my senior rate plus my brother who joined me bought me my ticket, thanks Dave. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...004_33-med.jpg EM brought in their first new frame that they have been doing since their long down time. This is the first frame which is sold but Russle and his son were in attedance as they are the new owners of the second frame to come off the line and will be recieving their kit soon. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...Frame4-med.jpg We did get an early Saturday count of about 83 Cobras in attendance but I know more showed later in the day. Where were you ? Dan Wulff's (CobraDan)yellow Elegant Motors Cobra in the foreground http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...004_44-med.jpg |

Quick tell the Wing House Girls they don’t have to run off and hide because Ed’s son was not in attendance and wouldn’t be chasing them around the grounds all day as he has with the Hooters Girls in the past.

Some Don Garlits Museum Pics

A 1/4 scale Replica of Swamp Rat IV with an engine that would actually run if we could find a 1/4 scale man to jump in the seat to drive, all located in the Garlits Museum. I can see why Don designed the rear engine dragster when looking at some of the first designs with all the metal aimed at your plumbs, much better mounted behind your back. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...004_36-med.jpg Theres a Cobra painted on the wing of that car but because of the ropes I couldn't get close enough to get a good picture. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...004_37-med.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...004_38-med.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...004_39-med.jpg |

Ed,
I'll put the 66 pictures I took plus about 7 my brother took on a CD and mail it to you. Ed do you think you could post the name of the winner here of the 50/50 drawing? Tony, I didn't make it to last years event as Ed didn't give me the dates until after the wife had already planed a trip to Las Vegas on the same date as the Reptile Roundup in 2003. |
Problem Report
I guess I should give a little report on all the broken Cobras over the weekend and I’ll start with mine. I’ve always had an engine over heating problem as those BB Chevy’s are noted for running hot. Before Reptile Roundup I got myself a new Spal fan that pulls 2 ½ times the air that the old fan did and installed it just before our gathering. The night before I put the car on the trailer for the trip up north Jim Milliken called and said he was driving over to my house to see if his car was drivable as he was having problems starting his BB Ford 460 and had just replaced the starter motor etc. He also had a new hardtop for his West Coast that I had not seen and he wanted to show it off. When Jim stopped in I also wanted to show him how I no longer needed the Chevy engine as the new fan would propel the Cobra down the road. I turned the ignition switch to the on position and turned the toggle switch to the manual fan run position. You no longer had to look and see if the fan was running you could hear it running even over the noise of the engine when it was running, I turned off the toggle switch and we went back to BSing but I forgot the ignition switch. This wasn’t a problem until the next morning when I found out the Cobra wouldn’t start as the trickle charger didn’t stay a head of the draw on the battery. It was still early so I had time to put on the battery charger before my brother arrived and we would load the Cobra. I had gotten the trailer earlier in the week and parked my car in the garage and had the trailer parked outside behind it. I put small blocks behind the tires so the trailer would still be in my driveway and not in the street when needed. After hooking up the trailer and trying to back it up I remembered my blocks under the wheel, so I pulled forward and removed the blocks, when going backwards I then found the trailer brakes were now locked up. Now I had a Cobra that wouldn’t start and a trailer that wouldn’t drop the brakes. Well, after a little charging and a quick hit to the brake drum with a large hammer the Cobra started and trailer brakes were fine. My Cobra ran fine in the Poker Run and never really ran hot, my over heating problems were behind me. About 10 miles from our final destination and dinner I blew the left hand exhaust gasket on my headers other than that; the Cobra ran strong. Jim was still having problems with his starter and once when it was hot he had to have a jump start to get the engine to turn over. With our problems we decided to put the Cobras back on the trailers and head home early on Sunday and not participate in Sunday’s activities. Both Ed Kamptner and Reg Dodd had broken their Cobras at the track, Ed’s was a rocker arm or something and I think Reg had a trans problem as there was no shifter handle mounted when it was parked at Garlits. Reg loaned Ed another BDR Cobra so he could participate in the Poker Run and Ed broke that BDR. Someone blew a head gasket on the Poker Run. My buddy from St. Augustine Mike Iodice drove up in his EM and on the way home his differential grenaded a few miles from his exit on I-95 and he had to call a friend to come and get him with his trailer. I guess we will have to get Mr Fixit to join our club or someone who likes working on these Cobras. Well, we have a whole year to fix and repair all the damage to our Cobras, see you all in 2005 at the annual Reptile Roundup.

This isn't a Cobra either but it did have a 427 engine so Ed charged the guy big bucks to join us for the day at Garlits

Dan,
Great job with the photos and the narration......I'll post pictures of my diff when I get time to put it up on the lift and survey the carnage.....I feel bad for anyone who had to drive through the shrapnel I left on I-95 after the frag-bomb went off......as I said to my friend Charlie, it was oddly entertaining......:JEKYLHYDE Mike :MECOOL: |

Tom Did It!
I was there when he wrote the check!
Absolutley the car to beat! Now we will have to see if the driver makes the car, ot the car makes the driver. I know I couldn't beat Reg in that car. Jan. 22 will tell the tale. Ed, are you up for the challange, or is it going to be Jim in the BDR doing it????????????? TL :MECOOL: |
