Johan I got your message and tried to call back - you were busy. Now I have laryngitis and can only make a hisssing sound. Hopefully I will get my voice back soon and can return the call. Good thing about laryngitis I don't have to answer my wifes questions.

Randy

If I remain mute I will send you a PM with my (many) questions. I'm really looking forward to this adventure - it's been a long time.

Engineer Ed 06-19-2005 02:51 PM

Willis License

A chance to run in the Purple Group....
Sure! So long as their isn't some wierd "initiation" like smoochin spidey or something.....
Just dont run me over in the Lola Schkee.

BTW, did you ever make copies of last years 7-lap Willis race?

I also would like another ride in the "Drive Thru" car if possible. I cant believe I have forgotten the video camera the past two years.

See you guys in a few DAYS! :D
Less than a week away. FINALLY!!!

Ed

RGINN 06-20-2005 09:42 AM

FYI For the Cobra run groups...I will be down at the track around 1:00 for anyone who wants to get Tech"d early. We will also check you and your cars at the Jamison later but pre-beer. If anyone needs stuff (catch cans, brake pads, helmets, arm restraints, etc etc. ) Let me know by Thursday so I can throw some in the trailer(s) Also for anyone that want to caravan down on Friday we are leaving around 8:00 am on Friday. Ed...we're bring the grill and some stuff for the feed......

Johan - it's 7 vs 70 for me

At least that's what's painted on the car, and I have the static cling decals to match.

Wife and rug rats (ages 3, 5, 7) are coming with me. I booked at the Jameson so if anyone else has spouses and kiddies that are looking for something to do, please let me know.

Someone mentioned slot cars - are we supposed to bring those too? Or just an extension cord, Playstation, and wheel controller so we can steal a hotel TV and set it up in the parking lot :D

How far is the drive to Hilton Head? I booked in Pooler for both nights as I didn't realize all the details were in the Deep South forum. Debating which is the lesser of 2 evils - driving back to Pooler Sat night, or packing up the rug rats and their semi full of equipment to move hotels.

Sounds like a blast - got my fingers crossed for good weather!
Thanks!

Hilton Head is about 30-45 minutes from Pooler on Sunday thru Fridays.

Engineer Ed 06-20-2005 08:47 PM

Rob,
No grill is needed for Friday nights dinner but I'm sure it may get some use during the weekend.
I've contracted with a local restaurant (in Tampa) to prepare some authentic cuban food for the DSCC and friends. I'll just need to toss it in a microwave to heat it all up.....

Rob, I've ordered enough food to handle 36 hungry drivers so if you have a group attending the "cookout" please let me know by noon tomorrow (Tuesday) so I can order additional food.
Call me at work (813) 887-2340 or shoot me an email: president@deepsouthcobraclub.com

Our convoy of Cobra's from Florida should be arriving at the track around 3:00 on Friday afternoon. Give or take an hour based on traffic....
Conducting a "pre-beer" tech inspection before heading to the hotel is a great idea.

Scott,
There will be a number of wives and 3 "rug rats" tagging along from the Florida contingent of the DSCC.
The wives have made plans to tour Savannah attractions and spend our money down at River Street.
I'm sure the girls will be talking about their plans at the party on Friday night.

As for Saturdat night;
There will be a convoy returning from Hilton Head back to The Jameson after Saturday nights beach party.
Just pay attention to your beer consumption as the local police have a habit of patrolling the stretch from HH to Savannah.

Questions?
FWIW, Johans computer "kicked the bucket" recently and he has been unable to check this thread the past few days.
If you have any questions, please contact Rob or myself.
We will try and answer your questions or forward them to the chief.

See you all in a few days.
Have a safe trip.
Ed

Johan 06-20-2005 09:15 PM

Scott, glad you have a wife and kids. I have some the same ages.
They may enjoy the beach more than the motel parking lot though. Bringing kids under 16 to the track is a real issue with track management for some reason. They are more than welcome to come to the party. There is a pool and all you nee dto do is ask and I'll find life preservers that fit. Glad you can make it. My suggestion would be to stay at the beach and go home Monday...

Agingracefully 06-20-2005 09:22 PM

ROB-

I have the track rented for testing on Friday and to keep the liability issues to a minimum the track wants us to have just the drivers/cars participating in that event inside during the time that runs are being made. The number of cars inside, whether on track or not effects the cost of the track for the day and the number of workers required to meet insurance requirements. For that reason, please don't plan on setting up tech at 1:00 as you will not be able to get in that early. The track use should be winding down about 3-4 that day for early tech and I will do what I can to let you in by then. Perhaps an early tech at the Jamison would make more logistical sense.

If you have any questions about start time to get in to st up, feel free to give me a call at 843 478-5334.

Rick

RGINN 06-21-2005 07:31 AM

Rick, No problem. We will set up across the track behind the guard shack until we can set up the trailer. We have plenty to do. Lokk forward to seeing everyone there.

Rob

Agingracefully 06-21-2005 08:39 AM

Rob-

Thanks, I'll do everything I can to get you in as soon as I can, but 3:00 looks to be most workable. I expect my guys to start early and wind up mid-afternoon with any luck. We have a few teammates that are getting their cars set up for the following week's grand am race at Datona.

Hilton Head Hotel update

Been chasing hotels in Hilton Head today, so thought I'd post my findings. Holiday Inn Oceanside is sold out. Holiday Inn Express a couple of blocks away has 2 rooms left. We've turned this into a vacation so we're now at the Marriott Grande Ocean (with Grande price to boot!) The Comfort Inn appears to have availability. All these appear to be in stumbling range of the Tiki bar at the Holiday Inn.
Thanks!
Scott

Johan 06-21-2005 12:05 PM

Great ! My house is 1/2 way between the Holiday Inn and the Marriott. I'm handing out maps to my house at the track Saturday. If anyone needs any assistance prior to that , e-mail me and maybe I can help. There is a Red Roof Inn also.
The Sea Crest Motel is next to the Holiday Inn.
It looks like the weather will be nice.

Johan 06-21-2005 12:11 PM

I have a pretty big yard and if anyone would like to pitch a tent in it, they are welcome to do so...
There is an outdoor bathroom and shower.

Engineer Ed 06-21-2005 10:02 PM

Rick,
The "Florida" DSCC Cobra group is planning to arrive around 3:00 on Friday.
If we get there earlier we are planning to meet with Rob outside the track (near the entrance) and perform the tech inspection activities.
When you give us the go-ahead, we will move our trailers into the track and park for the night.
There is limited room at the Jameson Inn for trailers so performing tech stuff there would be inviting headaches.

Johan, has the track policy on children under 18 changed?
Last year my son Cameron (9 yrs old) had no problem getting into the track, the only stipulation was that he had to remain in the pit area next to our trailers.
Please advise.

Ed

Johan 06-22-2005 12:41 AM

He is not insured..., because he is not old enough to sign the waiver. BUT, I bring Willis with me for some of the time so I know what you mean. The track makes the parent sign a special waiver and hold the child's hand at all times. The rule is not against kids, it is against un-attended kids. If you want to bring kids to the track, at least call the track in advance and get clarification, OK ?

HSSS427 06-22-2005 02:12 PM

Please post any info on the kiddies...

Mine won't last long, but I know they will want to come see. I have some extra duct tape if they start wandering too far ;)

Agingracefully 06-22-2005 02:33 PM

Bring them along---just have em stand next to Spydee so nobody notices how short they are:LOL:

Engineer Ed 06-22-2005 02:48 PM

OK, same situation as last year.
The boys had a "babysitter" at the track last year (ala Carol Lee) so as long as she doesn't mind watching over them while we are on the track playing....

Doesn't look like mother nature is going to cut me a break here in Tampa. It's been raining every afternoon this week so I havent had a chance to heat cycle the new tires.
My first lap I'll be wearing off the stickers.
Any suggestions on how to heat cycle tires in the rain?

Ed

Johan 06-22-2005 04:24 PM

I checked with the track on the kid situation.
They must not be left un-attended. A nine year old can walk around with his dad and look at cool cars. A three year old must be "on a short leash". They are not insured. If they are injured the insurance does not cover them, so the track discourages children, worried that they might be sued directly. The pits are off limits, as is the tech shed, and the paddock can be a dangerous place too. If they come for a while on either day, that is OK, but you can't let them run around. Just bring Mama to watch them and all should be OK.
I plan to have mine there for the racing after lunch Sunday.
It's time to say
"see you at the track"!

John Owen 06-22-2005 06:33 PM

OK – I think I’ve got it now. If there is some purple on your car, or a Dead sticker, pass anywhere, adrenaline and invincible attitude are good things, roll in the pines, a one lap penalty, 10 lap penalty if you were tuning at the track on Friday, regardless of age. One point for passing Ed, two for Spydee, 10 for Johan, 20 for having Randy or Cracker as a guest, and 100 for finishing without an investigation. Drag racing on the beach at HH is now frowned upon, one of those things from my youth that was followed by sleeping on the beach, and may cost you the yacht club membership if we are from your tribe: > no tie-dye – however, any local bimbo we pick up on the beach, you will provide food and lodging for the next few weeks, until all the tests come back. BTW – I want to drive your blue and white in the Willis – the 50 passenger one that was once a Twinkie.

See you at the track - if my invitation is not put on the "I have a headache" list..........
