Event Suggestions for DVSF V
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't want anyone's comments to get lost in the other thread, with all the well wishes for DV and his family. So I'm starting a new thread for agenda suggestions.

1. They have (had) a CART race @ the lakefront airport. That would rcok.
2. Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
3. Amusement Park Side trip or show
4. Poker run into the country (avoid downtown Ceveland if possible - Columbus was bad enough)
5. Picnic at some park on Lake Erie
We have to start somewhere.

I agree, let's keep this as rural as possible. Stay out of cities and congested areas. That was one of the things I really liked about going to London, Ohio. Kind of that "small town America" feel to it. It's a nice change from daily life.
Autox/poker run/any other driving activity
Rides to the public for charity
Short duration show (so I can walk my son around for a while)
Like I said on the other forum, Jack, if you need any help please ask.

How about a 0-40-0 competition with a radar gun to make sure you hit 40?
1/8 mile drag would be fun again.
If a picnic is happening in the evening, I think it would be good to do it right at the hotels.
Keep it simple and lets have fun.

Autocross, 1/4 mile drags, poker run, shows of some sort. Some where along the lines of DVSF III & IV.

I agree with Steve, keep it as small town (rural) as can be done. (something the equivalent size of say, Port Clinton at the largest)
Be sure to warn any and all of the host areas you end up with what they'll be getting themselves into with a bunch of loud and fast cars.
After seeing the DVSF IV cd it looks like they touched on just about all the things that make a gathering like this a winner.
Wish I had more insight into the local area but I've been gone too many years.

One track mind You need to get out more!
Poker run to cool places on Friday. Autocross, 1/8 mile, 0-?-0, skid pad, braking, whatever speed related event you can get on Saturday. Invade some small unsuspecting town on Sunday.
Every night, who needs something going on!

Tailgate party in Motel parking lot. Maybe sponsored by a vendor.
possilble charity suggestion: Any group that the local police supports.
If we are helping one of thier charities maybe they will cut us some slack.
Just an idea.

Other than the shopping mall close by the hotels, is ther anything for the wives that don't want to listen to us rant about the cars all weekend? Part of the London charm was the strawberry festival and the towns folk. Just wanted to mention it, because as we all know...if it wasn't for them, most of us wouldn't be driving these cars!
aside from that nugget:
Poker Run
Parade line to where ever the main event is held
Pikinik ( He says in his best Yogi bear voice)
Cookies!
Hey Jack! Is that you dancing on the Lake Snakes page?

Jack,
Since your wife Jana has a birthday in June and my wife Jean’s birthday is in June I’ll bring the candles for the cake if you bring the Fire Department. We could actually have a birthday party for everyone in attendance, with a birthday in the month of June.

WCCC did a mini tailgate at Hampton Inn. It was great! I second that motion. Poker run for sure. An entire day of driving through the back roads and small town america...and playing poker of course. Thats what i love about OH. That true mid-west feel.

We enjoyed the catered dinner with the band on Friday night at the church/ park adjacent to the motels. The poker run on Friday was fun. Rides in the country side were great. The dinner at the Bogey Inn on Saturday night. The Sunday ride to the state park, the lunch that we enjoyed, the afternoon with everyone, what a blast. If we could replicate something like this it will be another great Fling.

Events planned so far, poker run along the lake, a night at QSL, a catered meal under a tent at the Holiday Inn. Thinking about having the tent set up for Thurs, Fri, and Sat nights, as a drinking and gathering place for telling lies. There will be a speed event, we are working with NEOhio SCCA, as we speak. A show at a huge mall, and not the one where the hotels are. For those that don't want to attend a certain event, there is plenty on the area to do. Twenty Fives miles to the East, you have the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the Great Lakes Science Center right next to it. Twenty miles to the West is the amusement park Cedar Point, voted the best park in the US the last 10 yrs. For you coaster lovers this is the place to go. They had the first coast in the world over 200 ft, 300ft, and 400 ft. The fastest coaster in the world 0-120 in 4 seconds. and you come off the 400 ft hill at 80 degrees. Anyone that wants to go to either of these places should contact me, and I'll try to arrange for a group to go together. The costs for these events will be your responsibility. Of course we will be offering rides at a couple of these events for charity. We have the charity narrowed down to 2, and you will vote when you pickup your registration package, on which one should be the benefactor.
With 4 months to plan these activities, we don't have time to explore all the resources in the area for events. This year we are sticking to a format that has basically worked the last 4 yrs, and hopefully everyone will be happy.

Why not do it like it has always been done before?
We make suggestions for 10 months and the organizers (while inviting the suggestions and being cordial), do whatever they want! It has worked in the past. It should work in the future.

Yeah, because having a good time with friends isn't reason enough to go anywhere.
It's not a track oriented event.
Build a bridge and get over it.

Jim,
Why should I tow my car all that way to hang out with Cobra guys? I don't even like Cobras and we have more than enough right here that I don't care to look at.
Show me a track and I'll drive it, but to hang out with guys I have nothing in common with is a waste of time.
