Unhappy has anyone fitted a balance pipe

hi guys was thinking of fitting a balance pipe to the sidepipes to smooth the exhaust tone out ,where is the best place to connect?,and do they work well?,i guess ground clearance could be an issue.I have been trying to quieten my car a little due to near approaching sound regulations.Another alternative could be new baffles in the pipes ,i don't want to change to underneath exhausts.I am running 4 inch side pipes and an internal baffle which consists of a perferated tube with glass rope wound around it,i also have 3 small plates staggered along the perferated tube, any sugestions would be helpful. thanks Dave

David,

Do you have the ground clearance for a balance pipe?

I think your question might get answered better on a Mustang Site or Mustang Shop.

They have alot of experience with "H" pipes.

David:
Most of us like the lumpy sound!

Do you really think a balance pipe is reasonable considering the side exhaust most of us have?

Bob

I fitted a balance pipe just after the headers on my 302 s/b/f powered Pop street rod. I did shut up a lot of the 'boomy' harsh part of the noise and ,I think, helped the bottom end. I recall I was running MGB straight through silencers but I still had a nice V8 rumble. Not sure if you will have space under a Cobra but the pipes do not have to be big to gain the effect. Good luck buddy.

There are performance benefits to an 'H' or 'X' pipe in addition to acoustic changes. I've looked at it and can't see any reasonable way to install an 'H' pipe with side pipes - perhaps others have magical solutions. OTOH, those with under car exhaust may have an easier time than those of us with side pipes.

Well this is bringing an ancient thread back from the dead, so nobody originally interested may even be around to care.

However, I did see something relevant on an FFR listed on BaT.
