Heater Hose on a 427
My dual quad Hi Rise intake does NOT have a water outlet port for a heater hose. Nor does it have the typical heat cross over ports for carb warmup.
Of course I can put one hose directly on the water pump, which has a port. But what to do with the OTHER hose??? I just ordered the heater box, soft top and side curtains from ERA. Get's cold, compared to Hawaii, here in Oregon. |

oh the return line!!!!! there should be two ports. one is right above the t-stat housing the other on the same face as the t-stat housing on the right. if they are missing you can drill and tap the manifold

Perhaps there is a third port? I do seem to recall having to deal with some kind of plug at or behind the distributor? The water port directly behind the thermostat is used by the water temp sensor, which I don't really want to mess with. That port would normally be the supply of hot water to the heater box inlet. The water pump outlet is a no brainer of course and is the return of hot water port.
NOT the bypass hose, I don't think that would work out well at all for a heater application and could cause trouble in general for the pump or whatever. |
So, Ernie are you saying that you do not have both of the fitting holes you see here?

I believe the ports on the waterpump are the RETURN, hot water is forced out of the manifold (from the heads) and back to the LOW side of the waterpump, through the heater core if there is one. Right?

Rick, I think that is right, hot water from the motor, not from/after the radiator. It APPEARS that I have a second port beside, behind or nearly under the distributor, mostly it's covered up by the front carb. Gonna be real tight getting a fitting in there. I might move my temp sensor to that hole and use the temp sensor hole to the intake side of the heater, through the heater valve first of course.
I suspect heater hose fittings were not a big priority when Ford designed the Hi Rise intake. :) |

Had a bite to eat and the couch grabbed me by the ankles and threw a half nelson on me. So I staggered to the garage to take this fuzzy picture of what must be a "water port", I hope.

Oh yeah, I see it now! OK, thats the plan, move the temp sensor to the new hole and use the current temp sensor hole for the heater fitting.
Peter STRONGLY urged me against buying the side curtains, but I insisted. I had them on my Excalibur and was glad to have them available a number of times. They are funky, but their OK when it's raining like heck, even if they do leak. Besides with them there is "hope" the heater might actually work to some degree. :) |

Medford, the weather has been wonderful here lately and "not bad" even through the winter, a pleasant surprise. BUT, being Oregon, you never know when the rain will come without let up.
