Crotch Belt Install in ERA 757
Finally got around to installing my crotch belts . Thanks to a solution Bob P. at ERA came up with , installation was easy .... and more importantly , attaches the mounting plate/belt to the frame member that runs under the seats in the proper location . The frame has nut serts installed ( 6 ) for the bolts to connect to ..... frame isn`t tapped for the bolts . All hardware is grade 8 .
Bob has dimensioned drawings if anyone is interested in doing this .... however , check with him on your specific chassis/seat combination . I have no idea if this can be used on anything other than an ERA . I did have to bend the belt attachment tabs 90 degrees as it felt like I had a proctologist under the seat when I hit a big bump at speed . Here are some pics . After removing the seat, you do everything from the top side. I will post the dimensioned drawings Tuesday. You locate the holes in the frame rail relative to the seat holes in the floor. |
look forward to seeing the drawings....I will get under my car tonight and get a look in hopes of getting a good idea of how this might work.

Kramer ... other than unbolting/bolting the seat hold down nuts , you really don`t need to do anything from underneath the car . What Bob came up with is locating the bracket over the chassis member that is under the floor from the top . Pull up the carpet and locate the holes per his drawing . You then drill and put the nut serts in , which are placed in the chassis member itself and the bracket rests on the floor . I put the carpet back , bolted the bracket down and then cut away the carpet so the bracket would be on the bare floor . Keep in mind that you will probably have to bend the belt mounting hardware at either a 45 or 90 degree angle to clear the seat bottom on bumps/road dips , however , this can depend on where you have your seat adjusted ( adjustable seat ) .

I've put a new drawing up with the dimensions. If the drawing is printed at 100%, you can always scale what you have.

Thanks Bob - I know I may be asking A LOT...but with work and family responsibilities I have to ask...do you guys feel like making these for me? :)..of course I will compensate you accordingly...if not, can u refer me to someone who can...I don't have time or the tools to do this right....

*Note! Bobcat tells me that my assumed method of connecting the belt (with a clip through an eye, like the seat belts) might not be the "normal" submarine belt termination. I'll have to check that out, and possibly modify the design.

Update .... the attachment that came with the Crowe belt was not the snap/latch type , it was one piece of metal , and as such presented an attachment problem . Called Crowe today and they have an eye bolt/washer/nut and bracket that snaps on for the 2' belt ... part number is 11546 at $6.96/unit . This makes Bob`s bracket work as he intended and solves any clearance issues .

Sorry I haven't replied sooner... I've got a pile of projects waaay behind schedule. %/
The current design will only work with steel-framed seats, starting roughly around chassis 700. If the early car has seat tracks, something might be worked out, but not the current design. |
