You are really moving along! I have seen the bare transmission tunnel before in an ERA, but have not seen bare metal in the door, great idea. Looks very good. Are you going with a center cap for the steering wheel? At the rate you are going, that first test drive is just around the conner! - Tim |

Thanks for the comments. Took it out for a drive last week and it was true blast. First time I ever drove a Cobra. Amazed by the quality of ride and stiffness of the chassis.
Now the problems; pulled the oil pan to swap in the Aviaid and found copper shavings (see small block thread). Alternator was not charging, speedo is off, Fuel level gauge is off, fuel consumption 8 mpg. |
Needing a different distributor gear? Speedo gear? 8mpg? It's a cobra! The first drive is a lot of fun, I remember. The thrill never goes away!

Hi Wolf - so first drive ever in a Cobra replica, and it's the one you built....how good is that, buddy? That's a really good combo, the 'titanium' colour and the cream leather, and also that bare stainless exhaust. Really nice! I'm 'somewhat' partial to that Weber setup as well. B*gger the fuel consumption...they just look so cool.

Well no damage to engine internals. Source of shavings unknown. I now believe they are brass instead of copper. It is not from distributor gear. While engine is out, I am changing out cams, something less aggressive. Will also re-route some lines that I had running near headers. Speedo is easy fix with a different driven gear. Alternator problem may be due to under-drive pulleys, more testing ahead. Fuel level gauge will take more testing. What type of sender does ERA use with Stewart Warner gauges, mechanical or electrical?
Late addition, shavings were from a brass thrust washer behind the cam gear. Switched to a more conventional chain cam drive. |

While engine is out, decided to reroute heater plumbing. Originally I had them routed between the webers. Was having fuel boiling issues, hopefully this will help. |

Very nice work with the copper tubing. Are the fittings brazed or soldered? Looks like you might even pick up a little heat into the pipes from the exhaust manifold, especially from the header tube on the back of the motor. Let us know how it all comes together, it's a good looking setup. |
