Default FIA side exhaust - how loud?

My ERA FIA/USRRC car has a mild 302 and ERA is making up a set of black side exhaust pipes. My instinct is for a very open and nasty sound, which means no mufflers. Has anyone else gone this route? Yes, I want it loud but I'm welcome to any thoughts from those who have been here before. Some quick info:
-I'm used to a very loud 427
-my neighbors are cool
-I won't be driving the car long distances
-my wife shan't be traveling with me
-I wear earplugs
-I want the sound to match the looks (comp look, race windscreen etc)

The sound that I always come back to for this car is best captured in this link. I believe the engine in this CSX7000 is a 347 with much more power than my car...but if anyone has suggestions on the sound here, I am all ears:

I don't personally think you would like no mufflers and just straight pipes. Yes, it's loud but it's just not a good loud - very harsh and very rough sounding especially in a car without an H-pipe or open heat riser. It really sounds bad on trailing throttle. But, I hate Flowmaster muffler's sound and lot of people love them so different strokes for different folks. If you want loud with a bit of tone, you could put in a section of straight through, chambered "powersticks". You might search some of 66gtk's more recent post with some video of his 427 ERA with undercar exhaust and powersticks. It has full tailpipes which quiets the car a little more than short side exits but you will get the idea. I think with your side outlets it would sound fairly close to your 427 with side pipes.

YouTube CSX2345
Gives you open exhaust and unrestored car sounds
Remember if you have Webers you can get the sound. Webers allow air volume and louder note.
With carb and air cleaner will be hard to duplicate.

My car with little rpm louder than most

CSX2345 larger pipes than I have deeper. Plus bigger compression

So what does the car in BCJ's video have on it for mufflers...I, too, like that
sound and would like to change my ERA Dynomax mufflers out for whatever
that FIA in the video clip has. Maybe they are Powersticks??

Jeff, all those vids and sounds are great for different reasons. I have to agree about CSX2487...the sound of that car out of the corners and into the straights is fantastic. To my ears, CSX2345 sounds a bit tired but still very menacing.

That clip I originally posted just (to my ears) sounds like a freight train going through an industrial size garbage disposal in a fireworks factory. I'm not as interested in actual loudness as I am in finding that raw, metallic, mechanical, menacing snarl that crackles and pops and sounds like a fire breathing dragon with indigestion on deceleration.

I do not think that you want to go with no mufflers, you would have to check with your states inspection process to see if that is an option. I have straight flowing Dynomax mufflers on mine and they offer a nice tone with not much resistance or power loss.

Also, with a mild 302 you probably are not going to get the same tone as cars with a much more aggressive cam. Go to the last page on my build and you can hear my engine with the mufflers at low to mid-range rpms. Later this week I will have some video at higher rpms.

Jim

To me bone stock family car engines with open exhaust sounds sick, and a good muffler gives the same engine a nice tone.

Open pipes generally sound bad to me unless the engine is making power in mid range rpm or higher.

You may also want to consider how the general public feels about the sound of your pipes. As much as I love the sound of a Harley with good pipes, I have heard a few that are pure annoying, nerve racking, ear hurting noise. I ovoid them, because I want to drive over top of them. Of course my intellect overrides the emotion, but nevertheless the emotion is there. Do you really want to be driving beside someone who would like to run you over, but has to stop themselves from actually doing it? These seem to be the times that more and more people are lacking the intellect to control themselves in a civilized manor. Not to mention all the people who want a new law every time they feel the slightest offence.

PS.
There are enough people out there to vote our hobby out of existence, if we give them reason to. I think straight pipes on the street is a bad idea and most likely illegal in most states. We should be aware of how we are perceived by the general public and not abuse or annoy them.

Kit

BCJ video was a carbureted CSX car from Blackhorse NY exported to its new owner.

Guessing that they are std type low profile units.

I agree a cam and compression can make all the difference.
Stock 302 may sound much smoother ??

Jeff, didn't know that CSX was from Black Horse but there was a video of that car on YouTube and man did it sound awesome!

I appreciate everyone's insight on this and welcome all thoughts.

I would prefer to hear a worked engine with a custom exhaust and a nice aggressive note, than a stock compression and cam with open exhaust any day if the week.

My SPF had a 402 Roush with advertised 420 HP - running straight 2.25" exhaust front to back and it was LOUD and didn't have that pleasing of a tone when you put your foot into it. Sounded cool at idle and low put-putting around a parking lot, but if you shared the highway with it it was unpleasant.

That actually sounded better than I would have suspected. Possibly the sound track doesn't accentuate the harshness.
