Run up- heating issue.

Finally fired up 2152. Started up with ease, two issues.. Started to run hot and shut her down. Does not seem water is getting into radiator. by touch engine hot, radiator cold... Also oil temp gauge not operating. I have sensor on oil pan, after I drain oil want to move to a loacation thats easier to remove without draining oil pan. Thinking of going to a remote oil filter set up. Car when running sounds great. Wife did not like the fact it was uncapped... Trip to get pipes is soon before next run up....

Oil temp takes 15-20 minutes of driving to warm up. Recommend you address your water temp/radiator issue first, then drive it to see how oil temp responds.

If radiator is cold, then your thermostat isn’t opening. Make sure it’s not installed backwards but to be safe, just replace it.

You may have air in your cooling system that is trapped. You can try running the car up on ramps or jacking the front up to elevate it, start it up and move the air towards the thermostat and radiator.

Did you drill a small relief hole in the thermostat flange to allow air to bleed past it?

It takes a long time and some road travel to warm the oil up.

Thank you all... I had total brain fart. Has been awhile that I had a car without the fill not on top of raditor. Ran engine again for 15 min, have to deal with a vacum leak. Once I install exhaust pipes then I can dial it in... Goin Nov 3rd for install.

I like to get some input on exhaust. I want to do the competion style pipes for the FIA 289 body. What mufflers are you all using out there?

I am using 21/2" Dynomax mufflers from Summit Racing. Pretty much straight through and loud. They are about $50 each. You can go to my build thread and watch any of the race videos or the initial start-up to see how they sound. They do sound nice.

Not an FIA but 427 street car - running SpinTech low profile mufflers which are a baffled, straight through muffler. I like them because they are only 3 inches thick (I believe from memory) with 2-1/2 inch nipples and they sound good. That helps with ground clearance. Only issue may be that they are rectangular in section instead of oval like most.

I should correct - when I said straight through, that is not entirely correct. They are a baffled type muffler somewhat like Flowmaster mufflers.

Not sure if ground clearance is an issue for you, but of the three options for a cobra (cobra style side pipes, under car, or FIA) the FIA style has the least ground clearance. The pipes hand lower than the body in order to allow for the side exit behind the driver.
