Bob - What is the OEM application for your 427 tank unit?

I am planning an in-tank electric fuel pump for my 427 build. Holley offers some direct replacement tank units that have the electric fuel pump.

Of course I need to know what the ERA tank unit OEM application to find the correct Holley unit.

Any help would be appreciated.

isnt the era design built around an external pump (mechanical or other wise)? I think you would have to use an universal style retrofit intank pump setup....similar to the aeromotive phantom style. I believe holley offers a universal intank style as well.

I will go with an in-tank unit. Holley and Aeromotive offer units to be put in the tank beside the existing tank unit or they sell units that replace tank units in some old car applications, such as 68 Mustang.

The one that replaces the existing tank unit would be the slickest install. That is why I ask about the OEM application.

ah, I see, basically a replacement for the pickup tube/sending unit in older style applications. yeah that would be a great option.

Before you commit to buying be sure to check out this supplier. I have used his fuel rails, pumps, in-tank triple-pump hat and many, many supporting items. All stunningly high quality and all cut from billet, no sheet metal anywhere. The pump hats accept OEM Ford Mustang fuel level sensors. Just a wide variety of well thought out and very nicely manufactured products.

Be sure to check out the fuel pump hats (baskets), fuel pump selection and all the supporting little items he offers that end up being necessary to finish off a system.

The fuel rails for a big block 427/460 style engine will likely end up being a special (I might be wrong) or you may need to source them elsewhere. Irrespective of what you select from him, my experience has been that he offers a best in class product across the board.

Our tank fits very close to the trunk floor. The normal sender sits in a well (1/2" deep x 3" diam.) so that it doesn't extend higher than the plane of the tank top.
If the top of the pump assembly is larger than 3", it will have to be mounted on the top of the tank and trunk floor modified to accommodate it. Otherwise, we can probably weld in another well for the pump, although that pump looks too high to fit in the well.

Holley also offers units that are direct replacements for older car tank units, like first and second generation Mustangs.

Is the ERA tank unit OEM for something, or is it a custom piece?

I am planning the build as my car is at Big Bs and I prefer to not modify the trunk floor.

We use a Stewart-Warner universal sender: 385B-F adjusted for our tank depth. 240-33 ohm.
