Yet Another Gauge Question
We recieved the Autometer Gauges today and they look great. One question though, what gauges in the SW set are Mechanical and which are electric?
|
Don't have your answer, but this might be interesting....
I have 9 of my 10 Autometer Classic electrical gauges for my build up, the latest one came in, the custom fuel pressure gauge for the fuel injection... with the isolator and computerized box, and shipping, it was $340.00 !! %/
(It has to be isolated because the fuel pressurized lines should NEVER be in the cockpit) Good thing the other gauges were so reasonable ! |
Thank you

I have the autometer Cobra replicas..a set of seven
replaced the clock with an oil temp I have one question for anyone who has done the mechanical pressure gauges ( 2 1/8") It says to use nothing else BUT a SS braided signal line to this gauge from the engine?? Why can't I use the old copper 1/8 capillary tube with the approprate ferrules and nuts My hole set is mechanaical as was the original Smiths The autometer classics will come in either. Tim |
Whaler I'm using a 3/16 copper tubing to SW mechanical oil pressure gauge.
|
Bob, do you know the answer to my question.
|
Ike - I'm trying to avoid any liability here!
Years ago, I seem to remember some british cars with copper or brass tubing to the gage. They always had a well supported section with several loops so that the movement in any given section was near zero. Our current Smiths and S/W gages come with plastic tubing, and I'm using a similar setup on my street car. That said, at least use a length of -4 hose from the engine to firewall. It's cheap insurance. |
I think you might be mistaken. My question was whether or not you knew what gauges in the SW set are mechanical and which are electrical.
|
The S/W gages that we supply have mechanical water and oil temp, and also oil pressure. S/W also makes electric gages for those, although with a different style face.
|
Is the SW tach electric with the three prongs on the back. I know these questions are painfully idiotic, but I would just like to know so I can compare the gauges.
|
I swear S/W changes their configuration every time we get a shipment...
The current tach has 4 connections labeled (from 1 o'clock) sig, neg, pos, aux. We don't use the aux post. |
That'll do, thank you very much for your info and time.
|
Does " Smiths " make a volt meter ?
|
not positive, but I'm pretty sure they do.
