427 side oiler motor mounts
Hello all. I need some advise. I am installing a 427 side oiler in my new ERA 427 kit and at this point I am just positioning the bare block in the engine compartment to check clearances, etc. This is my first experience around a FE engine so many things are new to me. I purchased a set of Napa rubber/steel motor mounts which are suppose to be direct replacements for the Republic brand that ERA sells.
Here my questions: The motor mounts only have two holes in them while my 427 block has four holes. Does using only two holes provide enough holding power? Also, the only two holes that line up on the block place the motor mount in a vertical position rather in a more horizontal position. It is the normal position for FE Mounts? Any help or pictures is appreciated. Thanks, Tom. |

also , when you put your pipes on , install and tighten cyl eight , put one threw seven on loss , line up your side pipes with the collector pipes . Use grafite gaskets nappa sells them , they are the heavy duty kind . I can get a part number . Some people tighten the motor mounts so the side pipes dont hit the car when the motor torks up . Some people drill a hole for a 1/4 inch bolt(?) to put thru the motor mount . |

I wouldn't even bother trial fitting the motor- it will fit perfectly- almost like it was made for it. ;) My ERA is the only thing I have ever worked on where everything lined up and bolted together exactly as it was supposed to. Just look at the links that Jim posted and Bob P's diagrams, bolt on the mounts and drop the motor in. The modification to the motor mount that John 550 suggested (and which Jim posted the link for) is a good idea b/c you will get some motor torque. Good luck. |
Yes, what Tom said. Everything lined up perfectly on mine as well.

We went with the exact same mounts from NAPA. So far, we have had no issues with clearances between the sidepipes and body, or air-cleaner and hood during torquing. You might want to try it out first before rigging something up to prevent torquing.
