ERA and the Carlisle 500
Folks:
We're a little over a week away from the annual pilgrimage to the Carlisle, PA kit car show. I'm given to understand from ERA Headquarters that they will be taking out their usual complement of 427, FIA and GTs. For those who haven't been before, it's an opportunity to check out and compare the offerings of a number of the replica manufacturers, meet other motormaniacs and have a relaxing time. Jim Here's a link to a picture of the event a couple of years ago: http://www.erareplicas.com/carl_2001.htm See also: www.carsatcarlisle.com |
one will be missing....
Jim,
The "east coast version" of the #142 FIA car, owned by Joe Rodomista, will be absent from the event.....it will be pulling track time at Beaver Run with the Crankoids at that same time. We may stop by Carlisle on our way back from the track. |
So,,,those Crankoids bust up another good wax show. You guys should be ashamed of yourself. :D
|
Ernie,
That's just what we do, we can (and do), screw up: - car shows - track events - wet dreams - good hair days - voting in Florida - weather - good boob jobs |
Jim-
Absolutely anyone who is thinking about buying a car should check out Carlisle and ERA's display. I was on the fence about which car to get until I went to Carlisle 2 years ago and saw this car at ERA's display. This car was the inspiration for mine. I think this one is ERA 555 and it is absolutely gorgeous. It even makes Pepe look good :) http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...le_011-med.jpg |
Chaplin:
As for those innocent folks out there that have never met PEPI (the inimicable Super Mario, Mouthpiece of ERA) Portante, he's in the picture. One guess as to which one he is... And the winna gets? Jim PS: And as for the "RoadMaster" I hope he behaves himself. We hope someday to get out to Beaverrun and see what all the fuss is about. |
I wen't last year and gave Peter a deposite on a 289 FIA. I'll be giong again this year to see if Peter's mustache is any bushier. If he had red hair he could pass for Yosemite Sam! See you on Sunday.
|
Snake:
We usually start packing up at about 2:00 pm on Sunday inasmuch as the schelp back to bucolic New Britain, CT. is a bit of a haul and then I have to turn around and drive back to New York with the hope that I can get a few hours sleep before heading to the office on Monday morning. So come early! Jim |
I plan on comming early, Thanks for the heads up. I may just stay around and help you pack.

Those aren't crankoids tearing up the sod in the infield at Pocono in that first pic are they?%/ ;) :D
|
I thought the same thing you did, so I contacted the Carlisle people about which manufacturers would be at the show. They were pretty emphatic (spelling) that "NO" US kit manufacturers would be allowed in the show. So, I cancelled my reservations. Hope they didn't change their mind because I was not the only one to cancel out.
|
Tampa - don't confuse the Replica show with the import show....
|
Tampa:
What lunacy are you talking about? Check out the Carlisle Productions website! http://www.carsatcarlisle.com/schedule/import/index.asp Jim |
To make sure, I called them (Carlisle) months ago when I noticed no Cobra makers listed as exhibitors at that time; afterall it appears to be both import AND replica not "import replica." But they said its "only import replica."
I cancelled my trip and I know some others who did too. If Carlisle is giving out bad phone info..... Hope for your sake, your interpretation is right and Carlisle's telephone staff has it wrong. Anyway, its too far for me to drive without knowing the Carlisle people were giving out the wrong info over the phone and without seeing something from ERA saying they plan to exhibit. Perhaps you can contact ERA about it?? |
Chaplin,
While the Crankoids have been known to do some Auto-landscaping from time to time, I think somebody else gets the credit for the Pocono turf toss.I know it wasn't me that time as I was aiming the camera.%/ TampaFla, I agree with Jim, you got some bad information or you asked about a different event alltogether. One of our guys may be dropping his FIA racer off at ERA at Carlisle after we tear up Beaverun. |
Only saw 1 Carlisle Import/Replica Kit Car show in May, are there 2?
Well it's probably too late for me to reschedule so I can go. Guess I'll chalk it up to bad information from the people at Carlisle. They probably cost the exhibitors a lot of money turning Cobra people away on the phone, but that's another story.... When you say you're dropping off a car for ERA to pick up, I guess you've confirmed with ERA that they'll have an exhibit also (not just there looking). Let me know, maybe I can still make it there (I might drive the 16 hrs. and pay the $200 for gas...but need to know 100% ERA has an exhibit). Since you guys have rechecked with Carlisle and ERA, will any other Cobra makers be exhibiting (can't afford some and like ERA better anyway, but would like to window shop). |
Guys,
Why not just call ERA and ask if they are displaying at the Kit Car Nationals... Bill S. |
