Twin Paxton Superchargers
 

Folks:

I was up at ERA wandering around last weekend (after a session at Ford Carlisle) and came across this work in progress: twin superchargers, automatic trans and a big scoop on the hood to cover it all.

What a beast this is going to be; a very accurate replication of the "Cosby 200 mph" car.

Thats pretty neat Jim. What sort of air cleaners are they running? I hope we get to see photos of the completed car! Should definately be a nice ride.

I went over to ERA at lunchtime today with my digicam in hand. I have quite a few photos of the Twin Paxton Black Beast which I will put up on a web page from my web server. The Paxton car was being worked upon as I was there and the dashboard was being wired and fitted and the tunnel fitted to the automatic transmission lever bezel. The hood of the Black Beast was up in the loft and it too was "special". I am not too sure the photo of it will display well as black could hide the lines. This hood was probably not easy to fabricate.

The car is a challange it appears as there is not too much "normal" or regular on it in the engine compartment. The expansion tank is way way out front extended due to the superchargers. The carbs are Holleys and the intake is an Eldebrock with side by side carbs. The carb linkage is also not standard. I think it will be a bear to check the oil on this car.

In addition, Don's car is back in the shop from the painters and appears to be the next in line for fittment and installation. His is red with gold stripes. Don, there is another red car there with silver stripes on it. Being color blind, I can get those confused.:MECOOL:

What engine did the Shelby/Cosby blown cars have ?

If you like the dual paxton setup - here's a picture of 'my work in progress'. It is not historically correct as I opted for the low profile blower setup so I wouldn't have to alter the hood.

Here are some photos that I took recently on a visit to ERA.
This one is of about 7 bodies curing in the sun. The bodies cure for quite some time to stabilize before any work is done to them.

Here is a picture of the Twin Paxton project car which is called the Black Beast. Here is Doug on the left bending down into the Cobra cockpit with Jack on the right. They are fitting the tunnel to the automatic shifter. I do not know who the gent is standing on the far left.

A shot of the custom linkages for the carbs. The maifold is an Edlebrock, one I have never seen before. Everything is very neat and perfect on this car as you would expect from Doug and Richie of ERA. These guys are good.

The trannie tunnel comes out after fitting and will be going up to the upholstery loft for carpeting and finishing.

Here is a picture of the massive black hood with the custom twin paxton air scoop. This is a very wide scoop. Sadly the black color hides the true lines of the hood. It was hanging up in the upholstery shop loft.

Here is a picture of the location of the coil and dipstick. I really like the turned dipstick handle but the coil due to the pump location is really out of sight.

The engine was built by Cobra Automotive. Since the base was a Shelby block, I'm sure that it's worth a couple bucks though...

Folks:

A couple of other "modifications" that I noticed were required to get all of this to fit into (and under the hood of) the ERA:

The (smaller) alternator is down under the passenger side supercharger. It required modifying the frame for clearance and to get the hold down bolt installed.

The trans tunnel is wider to accommodate the auto trans which required that the seats be "splayed" slightly to fit.

All done by the talented elves up at ERA.

I think the hood looks really nice, but it needs just a little more work to make it look "right", and the side-pipes are gonna be a bit of a challenge, too.......:LOL:
