				 Not ordering an ERA afterall...
because I bought one (an ERA 427 S/C) already finished! The only downside is that it has a small block under the hood, but I've already rounded up all the parts to build a 428. Now I just have to count the days until it arrives...

				 Drive it first and see!
Functionally, there is no downside to a well built small block under the hood of any ERA. With today's stroking options and horsepower, and less weight, you might be quite suprised with the results of the performance and handling as-is.

Justin, I'll let you know when it gets here and we'll go for a ride.
Duane, I agree 100%. However, one of the things that appeals to me about the ERA cars is how authentic they look and that's the big reason why I'll have an FE motor in there with 2 fours on top.

An ERA with a small block? Well sure if it's the FIA edition.
Your onto something big all right, a BIG block is what you need for that puppy!

2 fours, you got that right too! |

The new motor I'm building is going to be a bastard, but that's OK. The bottom end will be all standard 428 stuff, but I've got some early 352 heads to put on it. These are the ones with the machined combustion chambers and big ports. They've now been worked and are fitted with 2.09 CJ valves. I'll be topping it off with a 427 2 X4 LR intake from a '63 Galaxie. I hoping for 400 - 425 dependable horsepower. We'll see how it works out. |

Okay, busted. Mike's right. I do. But at the same time, now that I've driven a few of these high-powered small block equipped ERAs, its caused me to be take a long hard look again at my iron block FE and iron Toploader situation. Looks great, sounds great, and definitely love it.

Don't get me wrong, my ERA handles amazingly well as-is, but with an aluminum FE and aluminum cased trans, and some more aluminum bits getting it down to less than small block weight category - I could be just like Mikey!
