Painter Recommendation needed for ERA
I'm awaiting the start of my ERA Street car in a couple of weeks and need some input from other ERA owners that have had their car painted by either Tony's or CCC. I'm looking for feedback both pro and con. If you would like you can email me offline at fzabski@technologyrevealed.com
I'm looking at a single color, no stripes, high end paint job. I'm building a clone of Peter's car, BRG Street version.
From what I have been told Tony's is the easiest on the pocket book but that comes with some, we'll lets say, "waiting time." My understanding off CCC is great job, on-time but you pay. I understand these are generalizations but is basically a summary of what I heard on the street.
Thanks in advance.

Well, how soon do you need the car? My ERA FIA went to Tony's 2 weeks ago, and "conventional wisdom" says to budget 10-12 weeks for it to be completed and back at ERA for suspension installation, etc. Tony says it will be ready sooner, but I am working on the 12 week basis. That's what I have budgeted. Fair price for very high quality work, and a lot of experience with cobras. In the meantime, Keith Craft has my motor order for a 331 stroker, with a similar turnaround time, so it works for me. Best Regards, RD

I had Tony's do mine last spring. I called him myself and he picked it up and delivered (ERA non-roller) it back in about eight weeks...near perfect black clear-coat. I'm in Meriden, not too far from you. Manny is always down at ERA in New Britain...if he's dead-heading back to MA, he might pick yours up. Call Tony, he's a real nice guy.

How about Ron Randall, Metal-Morphous. He's in Wallingford. Your not going to get better than him. My body is up there now. Oh, and it's getting dark green with no stripes. Give him a call, or stop up and see him.

Ron has an ERA of his own so he should be familiar with what's involved. And our new body requires less work than the old too.

It took about 10-12 weeks for my car at Tony's. Every paint job of his that I've seen, including mine, has been top notch. I believe there are still several cars with paint jobs from Tony at ERA if you want to get a good look at his work.

I went with CCC. The quality is spectacular; however, you will pay a premium.

CCC did mine too and the paint job is great. However, I do not think it was any more expensive than Tony was, or if it was, it wasn't significantly more. My paint is solid, no stripes and if I remember correctly it was between $5k and $5500.
But I've seen lots of Tony's cars as well and they all look good too- I don't think you could distinguish between a car painted by Tony or CCC.

I am out of town, but just had my car painted after I did some serious research. The net is Connecticut custom car are great people and do a fantastic job, but may cost your more. I am out of pocket through friday, but if you have time, ping me and we can talk when I get back and I can give you a lot of information.

Tony painted my ERA #2047 FIA. I was very pleased with his work and I am very picky. I have had several people here say they can't believe I got that good of a paint job for the price. I stopped bye Tony's place to meet him and talk about the paint layout. He knows how to paint a cobra. What looks good and what doesn't. His suggestions were right on. I'd have Tony paint another car for me.

I'll scan their pricing sheet in to a PDF file and email it to you if you PM me your email address. It lays out the costs for everything they do as of last year at this time.

No worries...here is the extras..
1) I had the silver with the special stripe so that was a bit extra
2) I had all the inner edges rounded...esp the inner fender wheel well lips.
3) Inner engine tunnels painted
4) molded (smoothed over) defroster vents
5) molded in (smooth over) wiper holes
6) Rivets in the front hood..
I think thats about it (that is relavent...i.e. I also had them paint on meatballs but I don't you are going that route).

Kramer,
Ron painted my Cobra almost three years ago and the only way you could tell it wasn't done last week is with a calendar. You have a tough choice awaiting you. Both Ron and Tony know paint and Cobras. Nice to have a win win option. Good luck.
