Default ERA 289 FIA: A crowd pleaser even in raw fiberglass

Bob, et al at ERA:

I'm driving my ERA 289 FIA unpainted, and the reaction I get from everyone is astounding. "Beautiful car! "Cool ride!" "Is that an original?" And, usually from 17-18 year old girls, "I love you!"

ERA puts out a beautiful product. I was at Apple today, meeting tkb_289 for lunch. I ended up taking a lot longer for my lunch so I could answer all the questions from the gathering crowd.

Which leads me to a question: Do you guys have any small color brochure that I can throw into the trunk of my car and provide to people? If not, you're missing an outstanding opportunity for free advertising.

Also, a world-reknown vintage race car restorer working locally had an opportunity to scrutinize my car. He looked the body over very carefully for about 10 minutes, then commented, "This fiberglass work is excellent. There are no stress cracks after what, 1500 miles? It's also very accurate."

I should point out that this vintage car restorer previously owned one of six original 289 FIA's...

Kudos,
DD

That's awesome Doug!! Maybe you should just go old school hot rod...black primer body.

A well known vintage race car restorer. Hmmm...would that be someone in your neighborhood?

You may want to at least seal the fiberglass body with a good primer/sealer before long or risk contamination through the exposed areas, leading to problems down the line.

Congrats Todd, great choice. Did you do up the paperwork and get on the 'short list'?
What color are you considering? Engine?

I've got a compilation brochure that's not exactly small (17 pages) but it covers all the basic information. We should probably hand out a half-dozen of these with every car.

No paperwork yet as there are may be new choices on the horizon so I need to do some homework but it WILL be an FIA. ERA does some jaw-dopping work, that's for sure. Engine will be FMS 392 short block, AFR 205s, Webers. Color is... uhhhhhhh... never mind, my secret. Interior will have FIA drop dash rather than 427SC w/Glove but will be carpeted. It ill be DRIVEN.

For DD... That silver with gray team stripes is awesome. But then again, and as you can see, someone already has that. Pick something that will be unique to your ride. You'll find many choices that may not be original but will look 100% right. It's not just the body color, it's how the body color works with the interior, (not tan for God's sake) the wheels, the chrome windscreen frame, rollbar, pipes, etc. That's what I'm going for.

Doug,

Great to get together with you at lunch ... and go for a ride in your car ... can't wait till I am in the left seat and can return the favor

The oil cooler screen you fabricated looks nice and it fits well. I assume it will probably have to come out when the car is painted ( Black ... right ? )

There was quite a crowd when you dropped me off at the curb, it was interesting that one guy knew it was a 289 car ... the trunk bumps and cut back doors are a good clue.

The car does look good in the raw fiberglass ... but will look even better once it's painted.

See you soon.

- Tim

Peter can't be bribed with cookies. Try hot peppers.

I, on the other hand...

Hey! I'm the one offering to hand out your brochures! Where's MY hat and shirt?

Standing out in that hot California sun, answering questions to the amassing crowd, getting my shaved head sun-burned, 19-year old girls pledging their undying devotion...
