Another coupe get Morphed
We finished the #26 FFR coupe last year and this year we getting a #98 ready for a customer. Its pretty much a twin to the #26 coupe right down to our signature aluminum plating we did to the underside of the fiberglass body parts.

Ron-you have been absent for a long time! Good to see you back.
Are you painting Cobras regularly now? I'd like to recommend you if you are. |

I finial got our new building in order after over a year and I had trouble finding the time to post but I enjoyed keeping up to date by ready the threads here.. I have been luck, there has always been a few cobras in our shop even during the move... I must say I really like the FFR coupes and the more I work on them the more I get the itch to get one for myself |

How much weight is added by doing this?
|
Bill the underside of the coupe hoods use 11oz. Of graphite then topped with 14 oz. of aluminum. We also do the underside of the roof and pillers and that uses 8 oz. of graphite and then 10 oz. of aluminum. Total thickness is about 6mils before polishing.
Bill we aluminum plate high end flying models like the one in my photo. The process is the same but we do a micro plating on them so as to keep the model as lite as possible. We added less weight than paint. Total weight gain on this p-47 was 16oz. http://www.ffcars.com/photopost/data...dium/vp472.JPG |

Thanks Ron

That Razorback is stunning. Is that 1/5 scale?
I built and flew 1/4 scale and 16oz. is nothing for a finish that large. |
Chas it's 1/4.5. Go figure ,,, It's powered with a 7 cylinder radial engine. Sounds wonderful when its on a strafing run. Some of my model customers have as much invested into these planes as we got into our cobra,, only difference NO insurance.

Wow, that's impressive. All of it. :)
|
Have you ever plated the entire exterior of a replica body? Some like the unpainted aluminum look, so I wondered if it's ever been done.

Ron,
Great to see ya back also, whats the location of new shop........... |
Ron-which blue is #26 painted? Is that 'Guardsman'?
|
Steve our new main office and shop is located at 222 Elm St. North Haven Ct. but my metal plating and paint facility is only 10 min. away in Wallingford.
Chas both number 26 and this 98 are the same guardsman blue. A little trick I use to make the color a little brighter is to apply a white base first. 98 is looking good, just a cut and buff and some re-assembling and this ones done http://www.ffcars.com/photopost/data...um/image17.jpg http://www.ffcars.com/photopost/data...um/image16.jpg |
The coupe looks frantastic! Do you have a web site? Regards domenic
|
