Having spoken to Bill at SA, he was able to confirm that mine and Rick's first impressions were in fact correct. This is a 2-part bearing and the inner one has been pushed back by the gearbox input shaft when the gearbox was installed.
He has kindly offered to send me a new 2-part bearing and gearbox input shaft seal.
