496C.I Cammer FE going together
Thought someone might need a 496C.I. all aluminum FE Cammer 2X4 engine. Built to run on premium pump gas, new Pond cammer aluminum side oiler block, 4240 steel 4.250 stroke with the new Bill Coon cammer heads flowing over 400 CFMs after porting with a Dove Tunnel Wedge intake. This is comletely new engine and hope to have finished about a month. thought we would have it already done but had to make some money to keep the shop open.
Will keep you posted on how it is going and will try to post some pictures. This would make someone a neat Cobra engine for sure. A liitle more than your normal aluminum FE engine.

Was there ever a Can-Am with a cammer engine??

Nope. a lot of rails and funny cars, but not Can Am. That was primarily 377" Windsors, I think some 427s, and later 494 Boss style engines. there were also some experimental ( Caliope) engines but predominantly others. I think the Cammer was too much to maintain in a Can Am environment

The cammers were popular in AFX door slammers. Drag racing, several found there way into Drag & Ski Boats too.

427 SOHCs
Those engines are an automotive high watermark. I remember being at one of the Chrysler Performance Clinics in the sixties and after the clinic had concluded there were a number of guys who hung around to ask yet more questions.
I wish I could remember the question that was asked but I definitely remember the answer that was given. I think the question had to do with what Chrysler's answer to the SOHC was going to be and the answer came back, "... The biggest favor Ford ever did for us was when they discontinued production on that engine. ..."
Just look at Alan Sorkey's (Full Throttle Al) engine bay-
Aside from being way cool it is an absolute visual knockout!

Hi Keith,I have three cammers that are being built by Art Chrisman and I need another set of Bill's heads for the third motor.Do you have a set for sale? Who's timing covers are you using? I have one original but it has been repaired and I'm looking for three new ones.Thanks

This is engine will be 39,500.00 when completed. I will try and get some pictures posted in the next few days of the parts. I am working on the heads right now trying to design what I want for the intake and exhaust port. They should flow over 400 cfms on the intake and close to 300 cfms on the exhaust.
The front cover I had was made by a guy in CA, I will have to look his name up. It seems that you have to go to about 10 different sources to get this stuff. Bill Coon says he is going to have his out soon as well as valve covers. They are expensive engines but should be some real neat stuff. Being all aluminum it should be quite a bit lighter than the original and make more power with better parts.
I hope we get it dyno tested in the next month depending on what snags we run into and we do have to make money to keep the shop open. This engine is for sale if anyone wants one, they can get the first one.

Get some video of the installation, I could always use some new vocabulary.  Might want to keep a heavy bag close so you can keep the body damage to a minimum.
