Like I mentioned, what size pulleys work the best ?

Dave- How do you figure the 15% and what's your 3 pulley size's ?

The 3rd pulley (alternator) is irrelavent as far over-driving the water pump, don't care, didn't even measure it. I'm producing a ton of voltage at idle so the alternator pulley is a non-issue.

It's actually 12.5% overdriven. Crank pulley diameter/water pump pulley diameter.

The "water moving too fast through the radiator too fast" concept has always been and forever will be a crock-o-sh!t, no basis in fact.

Dave- "a crock-o-sh!t, no basis in fact. "

You're naughty !

Kevin:

a good rule of thumb is to have the water pump pulley 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter SMALLER than the crank pulley, that way your overdriving the water pump....

For a 6 3/4in. crank pulley, to get 15% overdrive, you would need a 5 3/4in, water pump pulley.........

The alternator pullley is the small one and with a 6 3/4 in crank pulley, you will not have to worry about the alternator......

Thanks David, I appreciate it.

How about these ?

Water Pump Pulley
P/N BBFE2WP
Pulley Diameter: 6.2"
Pilot Diameter: 0.625"

Crankshaft Pulley:
P/N BBFE2CR
Crank Pulley Diameter: 5.4"
Crank Pulley Bolt Pattern: 3 Bolt

Alternator Pulley:
P/N ALTFAN
Diameter: 2.7"
Alternator Shaft Diameter: 11/16

Nope, don't use those, look again, your UNDERDRIVING your water pump by roughly 13% with these, you want to overdrive your water pump..................

You need to reverse those numbers........

lol,....... must be too tired, I meant to post the overdrive number's
:JEKYLHYDE

Been working on the sprint car for two straight days for the races tomorrow. **)

I was hoping you had the numbers backwards, but just in case, you never know!!!!!!!:LOL:

6.2 crank pulley and 5.4 water pump pulley should be perfect and hopefully take care of the cooling problem.....

BTW: good luck at the races, I use to go to 4 to 6 WoO races a year, haven't been to one in a few years, miss them in person, but watch on tv everytime they are on........

BTW 2: I once told Mark Kinser in his hauler anyone who would strap their butt in one of those cars had to be "a lot" crazy as far as I could see (he didn't disagree), but you'll do put on one heck of a show!!!!!!!!!!!!! best one on dirt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Kirkham set is here:

David has posted in the past that 1:1 crank to pump ratio worked best in most cases...

FUNFER2 05-01-2010 06:11 AM

I'm kinda backwards anyway. ;)

When you strap yourself into a 1350 lb. car with 750 HP, racin side by side with 25 other cars, turn left and sideways at 100 + mph,...ya,..... that's nuts !

Nothing,...... is like racing a sprint on dirt. We race with the outlaws twice per year, and unless you have $60,000 + in you motor and $5,000 of titanium in the chassis, it's a loosing battle but, it's exciting anyway. :D

The "Knoxville Nationals" is the best of the best. 140-150 mph. And it's not IF you crash, it's,.....WHEN you crash, consider the car a loss. We did two years ago when a driver came down on us, hitting the right rear, got sideways, flipped & rolled the car 11 times, loosing the tail tank THROUGH....the catch fence, and into the stands. No one was hurt but, the only part salvageable was the seat. His left front came into our car, breaking the right side downtube, hitting the alum. 410 engine, and it actually tore off the head, and it tumbled down the track. Total loss,... I won't say.
(I'll see if I can get some photo's)

Happy we have GREAT sponsors ! :3DSMILE:

FUNFER2 05-01-2010 06:13 AM

Ron- the prices are lower than I thought.

Even their pulleys,.... are a work of art !

Yes, and when I'm rich and famous (I'd settle for rich right now:LOL::LOL:) and retired, I WILL go to the Knowville Nationals and Eldora............

you don't need under drive pulleys for the street. The horse power gain is minute compared the cooling issues you will encounter. Stay with stock diameters and you will have one less issue to worry about.
