fe gasket questions
what does everyone reccomend for valve cover gaskets for the fe i have a valve cover stud kit and aluminum cobra lemans valve covers.
what do you reccomend for oil pan gaskets when using a canton oil pand and canton windage tray, part numbers would be helpfull. |
I think this is a good gasket: Milodon 40450 - Milodon Crushproof Premium Pan Gaskets http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MIL-40450/
I'll be interested to see what folks say about the valve cover gaskets. Right now I am using these: Fel-Pro Performance Z1632 - Fel-Pro Performance Blue Stripe Valve Cover Gaskets http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FPP-1632/. I would say that the jury is still out. They sounded good, but we'll see if they leak. If they do, I'm switching to full rubber. I recently just changed my Canton pan to a RR version and did my lash, so all these gaskets are pretty new. That it is all done, I'll start tracking down any leaks I have. |
i am using the the road race pan also, are you running the windage tray?,did you install the gaskets dry?.

I used the Motorcraft TA-31 gray silicone on all sides of all gaskets and spread the bead smooth on each gasket like paint (see the thread below). I put the first gasket on the pan and then the windage tray and clamped them to glue it in place for about 30 min. That stuff seems to dry pretty quickly. I also put the pan bolts in the holes to make sure it was all aligned. Then put the other gasket on and installed. This is a useful thread to review, by the way: http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/fe-talk/96713-engine-builders-favorite-oil-pan-sealing-tips.html |
I use the cork gaskets with a little silicone..no leaks in three years and have had them off once to adjust the valves...no problems yet. trick is to not overtighten them. Once you crush part of the gasket it's done.
