The Problem Is...
Unfortunately, the guys that can afford to pick that engine up do not perceive now to be the right time to buy it. With the fed telegraphing that it will be forcing increased inflation, the perception should shift to one where that SOHC engine will be priced higher next year than it is this year. That's when it becomes a bargain now and will be picked up. It's not an "engine thing," it's an "economy and perception thing.":(

Patrickt,
I can see that working for small items but damn, $40k engine? Does the person who can plunk down 40 large on a 'replica' engine worry about inflation? %/ My folks came from Argentina where they saw 1,000% inflation. People would get payed twice a day because their money would be worth less at 4PM than noon. So at lunch, people scrambled to the bodegas and bought essentials, further perpetuating the panic spending. But on the bright side, you could buy a 57 Chevy for $200 (American equivalent) on every used lot  rodneym |

Besides the economy, the SOHC engine has to overcome being double the cost of an almost equivalent engine in terms of HP, a reputation of being unreliable and the heavy amount of mods required to fit one in a Cobra. I still want one though. :D |
I think if you want a cammer (for whatever reason), and you can comfortably afford to drop $40k on one, then what may be holding you back is the notion that the cammer will just not hold its value, and may actually cost less next year. It's not a whole lot different than any other expensive hobby. There's something you want, but you don't want to buy it this year if you think it will be worth less next year. Everybody I know is a skittish about the economy, and even the guys that can comfortably afford big ticket items are holding on to their cash just to see how things turn out before they write that check. A couple of weeks ago my wife and I strolled in the Cadillac dealership to take a look at the new 2011 cars. Now this was on a nice Sunday afternoon -- and we were the only customers on the floor. Four salesmen standing around, and we were the only ones there....

It actually runs neck 'n neck with the new GT500.. I just can't get used to the thought of the cast pistons they run in the LSAs, hence one of the big reasons I didn't get one. Other than the Coyote and the GT500's 5.4, I like the LS motors much better. Ford's got to put a blower on everything they own (other than the Coyote) to get any HP out of it. |
