FE broke deflector plate in valve cover

Hey All,

I was wondering if anyone ran into this problem. I have 427 FE running the Cobra 427 valve covers. I started up the motor last night and noticed a noise. After pulling the valve cover for inspection I found the deflector plate inside the valve cover was slightky dented and started coming loose.

I am running the erson rockers and with a cam shaft 245 / 250 lift 680 @50

appears to be either a loose rocker arm or shaft if its just making noise and hitting now. If its a new motor, poss too much lift for the covers and you'll need to put a spacer between the valve cover and head. This is the only reason for this issue that I can think of.

Same Problem

I had the same problem at last years Dream Cruise, except mine came completely detached. Thought the motor was gone so I had it flatbedded home.
The nails holding it in had fallen out (luckily they stayed in the head). I replaced the nails and loctited them in. No problems anymore.

I noticed that the nut for adjustment is what is hitting. I did however adjusted the valves recently and the gasket is smashed thin. If I had thicker gaskets as when they were new it would not hit. Some have said to remove the baffle, I decided to do this and see what happens. If anything I will make a better baffle and reattach.

Apparently, this is some what common with the erson rockers.

I wonder if others have had this problem
