Yea, will be putting on the coon heads with ceramic combustion chambers. The only reason I mentioned the S/W corvette is that it seems that you need a lot of hacking and adjusting to fit it to a Cobra replica. If that was the case, My fathers favorite car is a S/W corvette. If its gonna take the same "Cutting and hacking".....Why not? Most likely gonna do the cobra replica. Just need to find out how much work it is to fit it in!

OK, Got my Coon Heads (not from Coon though!) Found a gentleman who had put a deposit down on Bill coon heads. somewhere around 2 years later, he had sold off all the parts he had as he did not think he would ever get the heads. finally, after he had liquidated all the parts, the heads show up. I purchased them from him Brand new in the box! Going to take a road trip from NY to Keith Craft to see Tony and Keith for a valve job and for a set of Ferrea Hollow Stem valves. From there, I will take the heads back to NY where there is a company who will do the ceramic coating on the combustion chamber. After doing a TON of research, decided not to put this engine in a Split Window corvette. Going to put it in a Factory 5 replica. Will Modify the foot boxes to wedge this monster in there.
Using the pictures From Kirkhams Fliptop build to replicate the headers as well as the foot box modification. I have to be the only guy in New York City with a Cammer engine sitting in my apartment Closet! HAHAHA |
Seems such a waste to put such a nice engine in a Factory 5.

FF Cobra is about 19,000 for a complete kit. Besides, wouldn't the FF cobra be lighter than a Kirkham? Lighter = Faster?

I believe their weights are pretty similar for similarly equiped cars.
FFR's can be made VERY nice but I wouldn't buy one over a Kirkham to save 30 LBS. Besides, with a SOHC, you're gonna have traction issues anyways. |
I have no idea what a FFR with an equivalent engine would weigh, but my Kirkham weighed in at about 2,128 lbs. I bought mine in 2007, so I'm willing to bet the Kirkhams have improved on that figure.
Here's a thought. Sell your Cammer to me and buy a Kirkham and stick a more affordable 390 in it. :D :eek: |
Nothing wrong with a F5 they made a great kit. Cammer should be a pretty good fit with some tweaks seeing how they already have the 4.6 as a option. Kirkhams certainly are top of the line in my book. I would also contact Nick Acton of ACE. He's "Mickmate" on the board here and builds a really sweet 427 car to original specs. Nice thing you can buy things as you go along or all at once. I'm sure he can help you on the cammer fitment from the get go. Saves doing things twice. He's right up in NH. Acton Custom Enterprises Custom Metal for Cobra's soon as my ducks are in a row I plan to visit someday and hopefully get mine underway. Really nice guy and took the time to answer all my silly questions and prices are very reasonable. Good luck the 427 SOHC is somethimg most of us can only dream about. I had to settle for a tunnelport. LOL.

OK boys and Girls- Ladies and gentlemen....
Got back from my 3,000 mile round trip "Road Trip" to Keith Craft. Got the heads machined with a 3 angle valve job and had the Ferrea Hollow stem Valves installed with Titanium retainers and Dual springs. My thought is to bring the heads to upstate NY where a company will ceramic coat the Combustion chamber and valves, but after seeing that Keiths shop used a hydraulic press to get the valves installed (Monster Heads), I dont know if I trust any other shop to uninstall them again to be coated. This will be a weekend driver, so dont know if I will have the ceramic coating on the combustion chamber (Even though I already have it on the pistons. Need to think it through some more....... Thanks to Keith and Shelly again! |
