Not sure what you are talking about. A SOHC head chamber and piston looks very much like a Hemi. Pretty much a Hemi design on the chamber and piston.

I see from the pictures that there are some sort of Copper or brass washers on some of the bolts holing the backing plate to the block as well as some other places (Holding the Bearings in on the timing drive?) Do you have specifics on that? I would like to go pick them up or order them for my build. Thanks, |
Up-date on this engine project. Well I was a little concerned about these blowers being any where close to enough. The customer wanted us to try them so we did. The engine made 750HP without the blowers at 7500 rpms and about 630 ft/lbe of torque. This being a 8.5 to 1 engine with pretty small camshafts. The engine just is to big for these blowrs and the heads just flow to much. With the blowers on it made about the same HP at about 748 or so but the torque jumped to 700 ft/lbs but the max power was at 5700 rpms. The engine then needs more air than these blowers can provide. They only make about 3 PSI and then fall of.
Talked with the customer about all of this and he wants to try some larger blowers which is the only way it will make more power. If we can get a pair of blowers that will supply the engine and keep up with the air it is moving and make power all the way to about 7500 rpms it could get pretty interesting. The 1000HP should be real easy with the right blowers and still be very streetable. The engine idles on 700 rpms and runs like a top other than it not getting enough air from these units. It is going in a Kirkham so I not sure what he will do with the extra power but we will try to do what the customer wants. It will be cool if we can get the new blowers to actual fit in the car. Any thoughts on the electric driven superchargers they use in the Koennig supercars(sp?) they put out over a 1000 I believe. I think the superchargers may be from a company called Rotrex? They have devepoped applications for mostly european and japanese cars but have done some supercars with them as well. Extremely small, lightweight and lots of power.

I had the same problem when I put one original style Paxton on a 351 vs a 302 in that Superformance Cobra. Craig Conley at Paradise Wheels in Ca who still rebuilds these Paxtons made me a bigger disc inside that flowed twice the air and it took it from 4 or 5 PSI up to about 12. The engine just flat ran out of air and I was running a 750 holley inside the bonnett with huge jets. Once the new Paxton with the bigger disc was put on the thing screamed. Are the blowers, already hitting the maximum rpm that they are designed to turn? I assume that is the case.
For a quick partial trial, gear the blower up say 4/3 the rpm they are now turning and limit the motor rpm to 3/4 of 7500 = ~5600 rpm. That should allow you to build the boost that you are looking for. That would tell you the torque you can make and should give some information to help you to size the blowers correctly. |
The blowers will just not move enough air to keep up with the enigne. The customer wants to turn the engine higher. The blowers are close to max rpm but even if they were at max rpm the engine is to big and moves to much air for them.
Gary I believe that Lance has talked with them and we are looking in to several options. I was worried about this from the start with these blowers but thought we would give it a try. Have had to start somewhere on this deal since we had never done anything exactly like this. Trying to stay with what the customer wanted and the look he wanted on the engine. Will let eveyone know how this deal plays out in the future as we try some other stuff. Thanks, Keith |
