do you have the part number for the newer fork lever?, here is a picture of the fork with the 6056 bellhousing, so your saying the lever should be longer from the pivot point to where the throw out bearing is ?, making the throw out bearing more in the center.

Yes.
I've been round and round with Quicktime multiple times here in the past 6 months. Pressure plates that used to fit don't fit anymore. Clutch forks that used to work don't work anymore. Ever since Ross McCombs sold Quicktime to Prestolite, it seems like things just haven't been the same and there have been several issues pop up that didn't use to pop up.
If I remember correctly, all the SBF bells use the earlier Fox Mustang fork that you have. The big block bells use the late model clutch fork....that is, if you're going to pivot in that direction. Keep in mind that if you use this fork with a Long style or a twin disc, that it won't work....you need a notched fork so that it will clear the taller pressure plates.

it gets confusing the ford motorsport catalog calls the 96-2004 fork part #
m-7515-a but does look different.

I just looked on the McLeod website and they have five different ball type clutch forks listed.

Yep, it gets messy.
I use the late model Ford one a lot....and if I use a McLeod, I use a 16923, unless it's a twin disc setup and then I use a 16922.

Boy ain't that the truth. Every time I call them up over there it's like a brand new day - a new person on the phone, can't find the account for half an hour, a new sales contact, and nobody that can answer a question.

Problem with gap has been solved. Brent ordered me a better suited pressure plate which had a lower clamping pressure, about 2300 lbs, as opposed to the 3200 lbs pressure plate. I didn't realize how difficult it would have been with such a high clamping pressure. It turns out that the lighter pressure plate overall height is lower than the other one. Enough that I have a little more extra free play. Finally, now I can move on with the rest of the build. Thanks for Brent for calling out the issue with the pressure plate pressure. Had I not run out of room in the bellhousing, I would have really been annoyed much later down the road with an impossible clutch pressure.
