Did you charge x-tra for the busted exhaust manifold bolt still left in the head and just painted over?

If this is an indication of the shape of the rest of the engine...

There's two that I can see just on the side that's visible and there's also an inlet manifold bolt missing, so that's probably broken as well.

I assume the engine doesn't run?

And the asking price is _______?

Take him a 12-pack or whatever his favorite beverage and bring your own tools and engine stand. Offer him $100 to let you drop the pan and pull the top end. Take lots of pics. Particularly numbers on the block, heads, intake and crank. There are plenty of folks here that can help you once you have that basic information.

Anyone else considering buying it will want to do the same, so you're really helping him out by taking it apart, unless he knows more than he's telling you.

A pretty big chance to take without doing the homework. May as well go to Vegas and put the $6.500 all on red. ;)

Good luck.

$10,500 according to his post in the classifieds (in the cars for sale sub section no less)

That's an expensive paint job! A friend of mine sold a marine side and top oiler as a pair for $6500. I'm guessing the heads, intake, and crank assemblies were junk but the SO block was worth $3500 and the TO was $2500. The balance of the marine parts would bring at least $1500 so I'd say it wasn't a bad deal. I don't much about this motor so other than the paint job, I'll forego any more comments.

The numbers on that boat motor don't fit in any of my docs. Figure a counter-screw center-oiler at best. Nice paint though.
