Dimis is another customer of mine and is a top notch guy....I don't think he meant it condescendedly.

So Brent, it's still your show! Go make some horsepower. :D

David

My sincerest apologies. :o
I meant no ill.

I've have your tunnel wedge K&N filter thread open on permanent view for quick referencing. I like how you've set them up.
I noticed the change in your details as per rodneym.

I put 2 & 2 together... And took a blindish stab... :o
Normally when I do this, I get 5... Not 4.
So I thought, rather than blatantly asking, I'd go fish...

Sorry.

FWIW - killer build!

Dimis,
Thank you for the apology.

Regarding the build; it will be an engine I've wanted for a number of years for a number of reasons.

I remember the first time I hit WOT in my Cobra back in 1994. Although the engine dynoed at 411 horsepower, the performance was less than I anticipated. Gradually I upgraded engine parts to increase power. At the 4th cam, a roller, I found I enjoyed spinning the engine way above 6,000 rpm, and an FE at 7,000 rpm is an incredible sound. However, some of the parts I chose over the years weren't quite matched to my driving style and I had some mechanical failures. Road racing will help you find an engine's weak point. Ask me how I know.

In May of this year I found a minor mechanical issue that could have become a big problem had I not discovered it early. It was at this time I considered retirement of the existing engine and replacement with a new 'moder'. Subsequently I removed a lot of exterior engine pieces from the 20 year old engine and forwarded those to Brent for use on the new engine. I sold the old engine as a short block.

Brent was a good sounding board during my several talks with him. I've asked him to construct a 'purpose-built' engine that will handle my occasional foray into the 7,500 rpm range. I am looking forward to the new one.

I think a 496 FE needs a good exhaust so I found an excellent craftsman and now a friend, who modified my old side pipes. He installed Classic Chambered 3" i.d. powersticks. My neighbors probably won't send me Thank You notes.

Hey Dimis,
I'd like to apologize to you for my response to you several replies back in this thread. It was 'my bad' for misinterpreting your comments to Brent. :(

Cheers,
David

Much appreciated, but not required :)
If you're ever in Oz, hit me up, the drinks are on me.

Also, good luck with the build and thanks for letting Brent share it with us all.

Good for you and us all

Now this is the kind of Gentleman conduct I would expect. Truly special. Thanks. Makes us all look good.

There are many fine Cobras to be found among our members. I'm often impressed by their presentations. :D:D

I appreciate your opinion of mine. I seem to be looking for the next level of thrill now that I'm well into the AARP years! You never know when the 'ride' will be over, and not by choice. We've had several heath challenges in the past 18 months and those issues have encouraged me to enjoy each day. ;)

Rodney,
I'm half there with the wheels. I copped a pair of still in the box NOS Halibrands, circa 1980's casting, a few months ago. They're fronts. I'm still trolling for rears.

David

RICK LAKE 07-26-2014 03:42 AM

What oiling system with this motor

Brent What's up? Is this going dry sump or external setup? Are you going with an accusump for peroiling and oil control help under high "g" force. Rick L.

RICK LAKE 07-26-2014 03:47 AM

Only 850?

COBRA #3170 Bruce you are leaving black tracks from 1 corner to the next. Traction control looks like the next problem. Suspension looks covered in the last video short. Chin spoiler in the front, small wing in the rearend, close up the radiator opening and you can go Nascar. ONLY KIDDING!!:LOL:;):D

Ok, I'll take over from Chas seeing how the mandatory questions are yet to be asked...

1) What they flow...?
&
2) When you say super light - how light do you mean? Say in comparison to a regular SCAT or similar.

Nice pics by the way, thanks for sharing.

Brent, the 1980's called and they want their running shoes back.

I wish I had more, but I don't. :p

ROFL...

Walmart specials baby!

If you need running shoes, that would imply that you run...

Anth, the heads flow about 370 at lift. I think I mentioned the flow numbers in an earlier post here. I will weigh the crank today but I would imagine that we dropped almost 10 lbs off of it. It's considerably lighter when I pick it up.

blykins 09-08-2014 07:43 AM

Block is home. Cam bearings are in. Beginning to do a little mock-up.

601HP 09-08-2014 01:06 PM

I've wanted an aluminum block for many years. :3DSMILE:
