FE core drain plugs

Hi again

One of our core drain plugs took a beating to get it out, so we trashed it on the assumption replacements would come in the core plug kit.

What are our options?

On the same note how do you actually measure these npt plugs?

cheers Kiel

Hi

Wish it was, no our engine is a 390 based motor, there the small drain plugs near the engine mounts. The drains not the core plugs.

oh, thats an easy one. they are 3/8 NPT.
i use a 45 degree adapter and put radiator petcocks in there that way they point down.
easy to drain to change a thermostat or a hose with out alot of mess

npt is measured by the inside diameter of the pipe they go on...so really with plugs hard to tell unless you recognize them or have a chart showing their actual sizes

Brent

Same as the oil galley plugs adjacent to the cam plug

Not 3/8" then?

Everything I've ever seen was 1/4 pipe. Use brass next time. Even if it gets stuck , it's easier to drill and tap out.

FWB 08-02-2014 01:12 PM

hmmm, maybe.....use the chart....

crenbbf 08-02-2014 02:05 PM

Ok had a measure and according to the chart they are 1/4" NPT

Kinda funny really considering the bit you measure doesn't actually get into the block

Good call regarding brass plugs even found some on our side of the pond

cheers Kiel
