Default PVC Install Question

Hi Guys,I want to install a PVC set up on my 2- 4 barrel side oiler. My questions are I would like to install a catch can with this setup and can I drain the catch can back to the oil pan? I recently installed a Aviaid 10 qt oil pan with provisions welded in the top for 3/8 and 1/2 hoses. They are blocked off now but are easily removable. Another question is where is the best location for the vacuum source (base of one of the carbs)? There is a bolt on plate at the rear of the engine that looks like a draft tube would go there. Could the PCV valve be installed there instead of the valve cover? I hate to drill into my new Cobra valve covers. Finally there are so many PVC Valves is there any particular one I should consider?

Sounds kind of like a solution in need of a problem. Unless you have reason to believe otherwise, I suspect in a properly vented system you're just not going to get much, I sure don't nor do several I know of. Mine vents to the carb vacuum fitting from the intake mounted valve and I get little or no vapor.

I would not to be too concerned about running a line from a catch can back to the oil pan to return any oil. There should not be that much oil venting into catch can. If there is a copious amount, then you should have the engine looked at.

The FE with dual quads has that plate retained by two screws that can be replaced by a PCV system. You need to go boneyarding for a 62-64 big Ford/Mercury FE to get the system. They use an EV-1 PCV valve that threads into the plate.

If your area doesn't require the use of a PCV valve for emissions, don't run one....

Your comment got me thinking, is there not some thought a PCV may help with a potential rear main seal leak in an FE based motor keeping pressure down a bit?

As long as pressure is vented, there shouldn't be anything to cause seal leaks.

PCV valves can cause a lot of problems: 1. It's difficult to find a PCV valve for every engine combination 2. If guys don't stay on top of things, you end up pulling oil down into the intake manifold, which causes oil consumption.

I installed one of these on my 514. M/E Wagner Performance Products – High Performance Crankcase Ventilation Systems.
